I've had two packages delivered by TNT this week, on both of them in BIG RED LETTERS was the instruction to inspect both the packing and contents carefully before signing for them.
I can just imagine the driver's response if I said "Sorry mate, you'll have to wait while I unpack this lot and make sure none of it is damaged" -
these lads are on tight schedules and get paid per delivery.The notice goes on to say that if there is anything wrong, I should sign for it as 'damaged'.
I guess this is the courier trying to wriggle out of their duty of care in the handling of their customer's goods - if you don't check and there is a problem, they won't pay.
My feeling is that for all TNT deliveries I'll sign as 'damaged' irrespective of the actual condition, then if the goods are OK and they question it I can say I made a mistake but if there is something wrong, I'm covered
