Marketing, the key to a successful business.  From what you say you're only using t'internet to advertise.

My biggest marketing success in the past 4 months has come through leaflet delivery.

There are so many different marketing options.  It all comes down to how much you want to spend really... What's your monthly budget? And how much (turnover) do you expect from it?

A rule-of-thumb I've heard is: set an advertising budget of ~20% of expected turnover.  I've not got enough stats yet to confirm this rule.

Don't use royal mail whatever you do

Billy, no targeted direct-mail marketing?  I've had a dabble, no response yet though...

Leaflet distribution but as Billy says DON'T USE ROYAL MAIL unless you have a magazine type leaflet or yours WILL be nested inside inside the one that is a magazine and yours will go in the bin unseen.  We have cancelled our current contract after using them for 7 years but in the last 6 months it's been a total micky take so found alternative ways to get them out.  Been hard work but well worth it.

BILLY, you say dont use royal mail, is that because you just dont get the enquires or the service provided is poor, david from zap thought leaflet dropping was a good idea, is it because people dont read it if its throughthe door with your post? ??? ???

If you wait a year to get back into a custies house, don't be surprised if someones been at 'em no matter what they said or how wonderful a job you did.

You can contact a customer 3 times within the first month and they will be glad you did.

Thank you card, feedback form, referral scheme.

You could easily communicate with custy once a month and they will be happy, depending on what you send and how you send it.

Effort? yes, but pays well. Obviously don't bother with custies you don't want again.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Gary

A lot of what i do here is from a book by bob burg called endless referrals. There are examples of Thank You Cards etc. However you need to read the book to understand how the SYSTEM works.

Feedback form idea I got from clean smart's marketing guide. I have always thought its worth getting a machine fron there just to get the marketing newsletters lol.

Survey Monkey for online surveys.

Referal systems David Frey is the man and does lots of free stuff online. jay Abraham also is good.

Wynne, I've not seen this book - but it was published in 2005 - isn't it a bit dated these days?

If its good and it works then it's not dated,

If you read Dale Carnagie 'How to win friends and influence people'  the bulk of the book is still relevent today and it was published in 1935 I believe.

This is the grand daddy of them all. I recommend anyone who has not read this to buy or borrow a copy, it will change how you look at the world, even today. ;)
