I think maybe if more of us used the 'report to mod' button the slagging off and insults might decrease. I've read threads, as we all have, where the insults start to take it over. That has sometimes ruined very interesting threads.

Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Three or four moderators like Ian Giles?

i don't go on the other sections but yes like ian giles, tosh n dave.

Ian Giles is never on here, though.
To be fair, that is Tosh's fault, though. Ian spends most of his spare time looking for a triple ladder that Tosh has relieved him of.

Borrowed!  ;D

Ian knows where they are.  They're too big 'n' hefty to drop off by my poor little self.  Besides he doesn't want 'em.

tosh you make a big thing of the racist comments thing, but apart from bad jokes I haven't really seen any to be honest, and I am being serious this time, there is a few but a warning would suffice surely, lots of people do it without knowing it

by the way your legal document doesn't apply to scotland we have our own laws and I suspect NI will be the same, ours are a bit stricter on sectarians although it is clear that jokes are allowed on that by law

There's been a few racist comments in the past five months or so; the last was in a post about 'bad customers'.

But if it's no big deal, it won't really matter if it's codified in the forum rules.  As for sectarian stuff like Jocks, Geordies, Scousers, the Welsh and the Chip Pan Lickers, well that doesn't carry the same cultural baggage as skin colour type racism; in my opinion only.  As I said in an earlier post much of this is subjective and the final say will have to be the moderator dealing with it.

As for the legal bit, I would just like something to show that we are accountable - by law - for typing stuff designed to intimidate or harm another member here.  I guess to do that, I don't have to go into great detail.

I will keep any final draft of the rules - which I'll post for feedback first - simple.

Race is a very sensitive area. People have been massacred because of it and it's easy to be flippant about it because it doesn't really affect many on the forum.
Saying that, much of it is down to ignorance and not hatred, but it's still no excuse.

I think the point I am making it should be down to moderators to weigh up the intent, if some one mistakenly say's I went to the c****y's for my lunch, there is no intent, if however he say's all paki's are bad payers and rotten that would be wrong, I asked in the shop I use and they are very open on what is racist and what is not, and they said it is down to context, If I say I am off to the paki's for a loaf of bread, he has no problem with that, if I swear at him and call him a paki such and such it becomes a problem, I have heard banter in the shop between football fans and when the shopkeeper is asked what he thinks, his answer in a jock answer is usually dinny ask me I um a paki ;D

right the point I am making is some people might be offended and some not but common sense should be used on this issue and if someone is offended hit the button and moderators react, with a warning or a ban if it out and out racism, I have racially abused your japinese a few times and I don't think you took offence. if you did I am sorry, and you have ripped jocks many times

I think it's to do with preconceptions. You see a Pakistani shopkeeper, not just a shopkeeper.
Mostly, these preconceptions are harmless, though, and we don't act upon them or do any real harm, apart from putting our foot in it, maybe.

Yes you could recommend tosh but it isn't something that i want to do. I do my bit by trying to give helpful info when i can. Occasionally i might stick up for the downtrodden, but generally i'll avoid posting and steer clear of the madness.

Ross' suggestion about the report button is something that i have never done. I know it's silly but it feels like telling the prefects.
It would solve 99% of the personal/racist/swearing posts if we all did it though.

It just doesn't feel right.  :)

In addition, any thoughts on the following:

Rule:

61:  Only forum account per CIU member.

62:  Don't take yourself too seriously.

I don't think we should take that post too seriously; so what would you do, retire Barnes and just be Tosh?
