who keeps their van in a car port?

I am thinking of building a car port at the side of the house with a back, sides and gates {almost a garage} to try and keep the weather off during the winter nights.
There won't be any insulation, there will be gaps {I'm doing it myself} anyone got something similar and if so, do you find it beneficial during winter?

Very much so - I actually keep my trailer, battery chargers, cheap poles, cones, buckets and rags there. I also have lighting and power for immersion heater connection too.
It's not on my house, it's on the garage which is standalone.
(Also got motorbikes and logs for burning there too. I only reverse in as far as opening the back doors in the dry allows)
It's a right old shanty town really, I've got a shed, a garage and a carport in a row alongside the edge of my garden.

Cheers Gold. I have got a detached garage at the back of the house as well but it was built when the car was almost non existent so a bit small for a van.
I started life as a joiner so should be able to put one up that won't blow down in the first storm. On the really cold nights it must make a big difference as well as adding a layer of security.

I have a big car part at the bottom of my house , with double gates to drive straight of the road, it houses my van (04 scudo) I also built 2 sheds in to it , 1 houses my Ro and 1000ltr ibc, I find in the winter I don't have to put oil filled rad in back of van , untill temp. Goes below -4 deg. Never have to defrost windows in the mornings, and every thing is secure , it is also alarmed.
