Gardiners pole hose
« on: November 14, 2012, 05:29:45 pm »
Just looking to buy some hose for my pole.
Can anyone explain the difference (apart from .2mm)  ;D  between the 8mm and 7.8mm.

It looks identical apart from the .2mm so I cant see the point.

It is identical in compound to the 8mm however it is 0.2mm smaller!

What it does mean is that if you want to use it with the push-fit flow valves you will need to use the John Guest stem to barb adapters.

steve i would go for the aqua-daptor pole hose mate.far superior hose IMO(sorry alex!) ;D ;D ;D ;D

the orange or the red hose are fantastic.very tough and easy to kink if you need to stop the flow! ;) ;D ;D ;D
price higher/work harder!

About a month ago and it's a nightmare!!
Really stiff and gets tangled up like a  box of cotton.

And has split twice this week 3 times in all!!

I had the old stuff in my pole 18 months b4 it split
This stuff is the pits :'(

Just trying to figure out what I can go with the rest of it
As I HATE wasting money

Sorry Alex but this is the  only rubbish thing I've ever bought
 of you!!

Daz i have give a/d hose a go after your post on it, but have gone back to the soft gardiners hose as it is alot better for me, the a/d hose is too stiff to work with.

Alex do you have any of the old soft pole hose? the very soft one from when you could pick hard or soft hose.
Thanks B

We do not do any of the older soft hose, although you will find that the 8mm or the 7.8mm has some similarities in handling.

I use the same hose all year round and have about 4 different types of hose on poles in my van from the various types we have sold. I find that they way it is stored and coiled away has a great effect on how easy it is to use and how long it lasts.

I have just ordered 100m of the 7.8mm.

I did prefer the softer stuff Gardiners used to sell but the new stuff lasts well and at under £11 for 100m I don't think anyone can complain.  (but they will)   ;D

I use Aquadaptor's red pole hose as my main hose and it's great. The pole hose on my Gardiners SLX22 is ok but does get a bit too twisted for my liking. Think it's time for a change.

Same factory that we have this made - as we have to buy this in quantities of 100,000m+ a year we are unable to stock more than one type (apart from the few rolls of 7.8mm we currently have) at a time.

Sorry Alex but I also have to agree on this one. Not the best thing I've ever bought from you.

I bought 100 metres of 8mm a few months back from you. I was starting to think I had old stock or something.

It's not very flexible, tangles easily and I find I still need the barbs for the push fit tap else they weep.

I haven't had any split yet though.

Your issue may be down to the fact that it has been stored as a 100m reel and when you pull off 8m or so for a pole it still has a memory from being tightly rolled for a while.

What can really help is to condition it before use. Cut off the length you need from the main roll and then a fill bucket with near boiling water (couple of boiled kettles with the rest tap hot) and submerge the hose in it for 20 or 30 seconds. Then remove the hose and loosely coil the hose in about a 50cm diameter coil and leave for a few hours like this. When you then come to use it for the first time it should be a lot more usable and give you less hassle.

The slight problem we have is that when we have a pole hose produced we have to try and produce a 'middle of the road' hose that suits most people. Our current hose seems to do this - however it will not suit everyone.

However having said all of this you mention that your hose is not fitting into the pole valve without slight weeping. Could you email me on alex@agardiner.co.uk so that I can address this issue for you as this should not be happening and I would like to get this sorted for you.
