Truckmount oil change

I make an oily mess of my machine when I change the oil on the truckmount. Can anybody do it without having to spend half an hour cleaning up afterwards.

I got my neighbour to do mine the other day. The phoenix has a easy access pipe that you just unscrew and shove into a container to bleed the oil out. Once done, tighten nut and position hose back.. job done. Next time I'll be doing it myself. :)

Depends on what engine you have and where the drain pug is, also a large enough container for the waist :'(

BS engine have a rubber drain tube (hand ups I used a small container and forgot about it ;) Sorry Mr B however that strongarm worked didn’t it)

I presume its more to do with when taking the filter off? - it does go everywhere! In this instance I use a few lengths of tissue from those big rolls and lay them beneath so as to soak it all up. Then just grab it all and bin it, and your paintwork is still nice and shiny ;D

It is at the oil filter where I spill a lot of oil.

Stop using a screwdriver to punch a hole in it so it can turn it ;D ;)

Use the correct tool ???

Don’t forget oil is a good rust inhibitor ;)

Julian,

Similiar to Kev I spend a bit of time laying old spotting towels underneath the filter to catch the inevitable oil spill. Works for me and  my Thermalwave has the filter in an inaccessible place and on its side :(

Wrap a plastic bag/ crisp bag round the filter and unscrew into that and no mess. ;)

Drain oil from rubber tube then as already mentioned place plastic bag around filter and unscrew, all oil in bag.....Simples!!

If you are really OCD you can get an oil sucker. It also makes sure you get 99% of the old stuff out before you put in the new.

Most engines drive me mad the way they have the oil filter.  Almost impossible to remove without causing a oil slick.  Like others though i use paper towel.  Lay it around where the oil filter is and hope for the best.
