advice on canvasser
« on: October 19, 2012, 07:01:47 pm »
Finally got some one keen on doing some canvassing. Problem is she is 17. A bit worried about age. Is it a no no to pay some one of that age.  Also where is best place to advertise for canvasser. Advice appreciated as want big canvassing campaign before winter. I'm paying half of value of clean eg £20 house they get £10. Never done this before. Thanks.

half the value of clean regardless of stick rate would be fair ie canvasser gets 50% no matter what is my thoughts,
and regarding age isnt 16+ the legal age to work? i had my first job at 16 was for £3.35 per hour! back in 96!
she can invoice you for her services after you have cleaned them so say you cleaned £130 that means you owe her £65

im sure her age is not an issue ie working wise!

the main problem you will have is if you leave her to canvass alone and she works all day and only picks up say £60 then say £20 cancels before clean you clean £40 and pay her £20 for a days work im sure her parents will kick off not only will you have an unhappy staff member but also mum and dad screaming at you!!

when my girl friend got her first job she was 18 and her dad didnt like it, it was a bar job and she was under paid treated badly he basically drove there one day and said "come on lets go!"

so i think maybe try this method
offer her about £40 for say 5 hours of canvassing with you or someone who will over see her
now explain properly that normally its a commision paid job and that this role is NOT for everyone and that you will only keep her on if you both feel its the right job for her
that way when she finishes work in those 5 hours if she picked up more then say a good £80 in leads you will know that she will be happy because thats the same as £40 for what she will most likly be happy with as its almost £10 per hour and minium wage is about £6.20 and i think even less at that age,

if in 5 hours she gets no leads or maybe £30 you know its not for her but she gets paid £40 for the trail day and its cost you £40 but everyone is happy if you know what i mean

To the OP; How well do you know this girl? How did you find her, and what experience does she have in this field? Is she familiar with your pricing structure, and will she be able to hold her own with a potential customer who tries to haggle? Finally is she really aware of what is expected of her for the wage/commission you are offering her?

I have never used a canvasser, neither would I as I prefer to do this myself, but if I were to, I would want to know that the questions asked above would all be satisfied by both parties before proceeding, and supported by a written contract.
