are you replacing both ends at the same time,it is recommend that you do
Hi Frank
If you mean the hose tail then No I'm only changing the Rectus 21. The hosetails last a long time before they need to be replaced but the Rectus 21's are to be honest cra@p I've noticed over the years that some seem to be better than others but recently the ones I've been buying seem to fail and have a significantly shorter life span' as mentioned above Cleantech used to supply the best I've ever used so I think I'm gonna try a few other suppliers and see if there are any improvements.
As Frank has mentioned already when replacing the female shut-off fitting you should always replace all of the males in use at the same time. According to all of the manufacturers of these items this should be standard practise. This advice is posted on our website under these fittings. A worn or damaged male fitting can inflict internal damage on the female and render it non-working sometimes within a matter of days. This appears to be the female 'failing' and yet is the males fault.
The typical pattern goes, you have a female fitting that lasts a good length of time say 8 months and then it is replaced. The male is not replaced and the new female lasts only about 2-3 months (because it is being used with an 8 month old male), you then replace the female again (usually muttering about poor quality!) with another female and still leave all of the now 10/11 month old males in place. The new female only last about 2-3 weeks and poor quality is again blamed. In reality the males have done all the damage on the last two fittings and get none of the blame
It really is worth starting afresh with all new males and females and seeing how long they last. We find that working this way we usually get between 6-8 months from a set of fittings.
