Rectus 21's
« on: October 17, 2012, 07:31:53 pm »
Who's the best supplier to use for Rectus 21's? I used to use Cleantech before they ceased trading, there fittings were good and well priced. I have used a different supplier since then but the fittings seem to break down much quicker with the bearings going and water flowing out of the fitting when you disconnect your pole hose.

Some recommendations on the best suppliers for this product atm would be very helpful  :)

rectus were bought up by hopespare about 18 months ago and they've got quite a few branches nationwide, so just find one and go buy them

The problem with rectus connectors is that they are not designed to take abuse. Dragging on the floor just wears them down.

What you need to do is to protect them using things like the protecta balls that gardiners (and others) sell. Also you need to make sure they are fitted up close and personal against eachother and they cant move.

They wont last forever and dont cost much at all. I always have spares and anytime im ordering something, i always have a few added to my order.
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

Yep have to agree. The rectus 21's I've had from them recently are failing at an alarming rate' bearings going and leaking water after a very short space of time.

Hi Frank

If you mean the hose tail then No I'm only changing the Rectus 21. The hosetails last a long time before they need to be replaced but the Rectus 21's are to be honest cra@p I've noticed over the years that some seem to be better than others but recently the ones I've been buying seem to fail and have a significantly shorter life span' as mentioned above Cleantech used to supply the best I've ever used so I think I'm gonna try a few other suppliers and see if there are any improvements.

As Frank has mentioned already when replacing the female shut-off fitting you should always replace all of the males in use at the same time. According to all of the manufacturers of these items this should be standard practise. This advice is posted on our website under these fittings. A worn or damaged male fitting can inflict internal damage on the female and render it non-working sometimes within a matter of days. This appears to be the female 'failing' and yet is the males fault.

The typical pattern goes, you have a female fitting that lasts a good length of time say 8 months and then it is replaced. The male is not replaced and the new female lasts only about 2-3 months (because it is being used with an 8 month old male), you then replace the female again (usually muttering about poor quality!) with another female and still leave all of the now 10/11 month old males in place. The new female only last about 2-3 weeks and poor quality is again blamed. In reality the males have done all the damage on the last two fittings and get none of the blame  :)

It really is worth starting afresh with all new males and females and seeing how long they last. We find that working this way we usually get between 6-8 months from a set of fittings.

This logic works once it is the same accross all the brands. I gave up buying from your company when I had some go the same day or within a week of fitting them, not one but a few. I started buying the byersan model and have been using the same one for 6 months with the same male that supposedly caused the gardiners model to fail.

I will put this to the test with the next batch that I buy and see if as you have described it makes a significant difference to the lifespan of the Rectus 21.

Since these fittings are actually intended to be used for a different application other than what us WC use them for' including micro and minibore. It would be great if a WC industry supplier could design and supply some fittings and hose which is designed solely for water fed pole window cleaning. Or perhaps suppliers feel that there is no room for improvement on what we already use.
