need to pump water from 25l drums to van
« on: October 15, 2012, 09:54:34 pm »
live in a flat with lift, been buying water for years reliable suppliers quite cheap too , but i dug my ro out the other day and i liked filling my own tank up,
only annoying thing is tiping them into the tank not so much carrying them down as i have a trolly that can carry 4,

so whats the best way to pump from those barrles?i was thinking of cutting the top of the barrles off and placing a standard large pump inside them as i heard you could have a socket in the van installed somehow,?

any other ideas? by the way i also have a small shed but no water or power can ever be installed there!
could suite for somesort of stoage thou!

I use a submersible pump. 12v bought off ebay for £12 pumps about 15l a minute. They are described as caravan pumps.

If it's 12V, buy a decent battery meant for a golf cart. They're pricey but they do the job.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

a few brands ive just been looking gona maybe go with whale or comet vip looking for at least 15l a min , will maybe get 4 that way all 4 barrles will be unloaded in about 2 mins!

one of my many weak points ,however, is electrics lol so the power cables dont seem quite long enof about a meter i might need to extend them and also could i hook them up to my main pump battey?

Wait, you could do this for free. What van do you have? I used to do this when I needed a top up in day id take extra barrels.

I used to put the barrel on top of van, or at least higher than where you need water to go, had a length of hose, (thicker the better) and siphon it out, its very fast, as quick as a pump and it won't fail. ;)

KISS keep it simple stupid :D

Yes I know that would work but if I'm going to do this longer term I will need to reduce the strain of lifting the idea is the 4 barrels sit in my shed fully loaded then they are pumped into tank, then I take trolley upstairs pump from the 220l water butt which is on balcony into 4 baffles then back again to van, no lifting what so ever makes things A lot more easier and the person who recommended these caravan pumps might have just saved me a few quid in water buying! If I can get it working

I had a spare backpack battery to power mine, lasts for ever on a charge.
I put the battery in a plastic clip top box and drilled a hole in the top to take a heavy duty switch from halfords.
I extended the wiring and it all works well.
Where do u live?  as i have another spare backpack battery which you could have for free.

Hi combat! Top man for letting me know About these caravan pumps i just ordered mine it is a 20 L per minute comet VIP £20 but I think it's the fastest one you can get of that size I really appreciate your offer I'm in South London I was going to run it directly from my leisure battery I've basically been advised to get a couple of crocodile clips And simply pop the pump in the barrel and then connect the pump onto the leisure battery and apparently the pump will start to work It's the same leisure battery that powers wfp pump

Hi Crystal, Things never slot in do they!
I have a spare pump which will fit in the barrels but its about 15l minute rating and seems to take ages to fill my backpack from the barrel.
If you want it email me your address and i'll post it to you freebie.
Also got the 4 barrels! but not posting them!!
