How would you go about it?
« on: October 13, 2012, 06:49:41 pm »
I'm a part time windy and in my other job there might be some redundancies on the horizon. If I were to become one of the chosen few I might have to look at being a full time windy. That being the case I'd want about £1500 worth of work a month fairly quick. How would you go about it? Buy a round, canvass like mad, employ a canvasser or a combination of the three? Personally I think canvass like mad but I'm in South Yorkshire and with the prices up here I'd need a lot of customers. What would you do.
Thanks  ;D ;D

if your part time already then you have a customer base from which to work from - basically you need to
be really focused and canvass all you can

yes you can easily get to 1500 a month and more in as little time as 8 weeks - but you need to be focused and dedicated on canvassing morning - noon and again in the evenings plus weekends

DONT fall into the trap of putting it off because 'i dont feel like it' - it's tough going until all the new cleans settle into
their prospective rounds

good luck to you

DG you need to put your prices up mate , im allso in barnsley and get good prices i do have a few that are not too good but these have been on my books for over 11 years .
Every new house you pick up add £2 to the price you would normally charge , if you havent allready done it increase the prices on the work you allready do you can soon make up the extra money .

Thanks DS, been putting all new houses up for a while now mate and the other stuff I'll get away with putting it up in a few months. What do you reckon I can get away with on a 3 bed semi?

Hi Dale, I'm in a catch 22 until I find if I'm due for redundancy, I've not got the time to take on more work. Obviously if I am for the push i'll be out all hours canvassing. Yep got the pole up and running, real pain doing all the first cleans, slower than trad but I've not had a complaint yet despite offering to clean them again free if they aren't up to scratch. Doing a few second cleans now and starting to fly through it.   ;D

Theres no trick , no gimmick just a price .
LIKE slumpy says its having the balls to charge more .
Window cleaning on a lot of domestic will allways be low paid , theres allways going to be flyers pushed through letter boxes with silly prices like £2.50 , while this happens then prices are hard to increase .
Ive allways gave my price and stuck to it , if the customer dont want it i will walk away .
Last week i quoted 2 jobs within 60 yards of each other both houses same style £18 for first clean £10 every time after , 1 said yes the other was it seems a lot when i was only paying £4 .
Ok take it or leave it but its £18 then £10 and i walked away .
2 DAYS LATER i turn up to do the house that accepted the £18 i did that and away i went , DAY AFTER the other one who turned me down was on the phone saying will you PLEASE come and do my windows .
Dont get me wrong i do have work thats underpriced but they are all next door to each other and where i first started but i do make a decent income from them .
Give your price and stick to it , DO a good job everytime and if someone wants to post a flyer at £2.50 it wont make any diffrence as the customer will allways stick with good quality work thats done regular .

Cheers DS, I do have some under priced work but it is very compact so I can make decent money on it. I'll push new prices a bit higher in future

Why do guys think its alright to charge less if business is compact. If its compact its you that worked hard to build a round that`s compact why give the customer your profit, they have not done anything to contribute to you achieving a compact round.Come on guys its not business like at all.

Yeah agree slumpy the thing with my compact work is its people who i first ever started with and they were low priced at a fiver a go so to jump up to £10 a go would now be a increase of £3 , I think a few would maybe cancel or go monthly .

I re-quoted a mother and daughter last week, semi-detached neighbours with all round open gardens.
Said "it would normally be £15 each but as you live next to each other and you look like sisters I will do them for...."
Before  I had the chance to say anything else they said in unison "That will be fine".

I love my customers.
