First water tds problem?
« on: September 19, 2012, 08:11:33 pm »
Hi all, the other week my tds after ro and DI was reading .5 so I popped round to a mate who knows and he took a reading of .0, he said he wouldn't of expected a high reading yet as I am still only using 350l per day and the resin was about 4-5 weeks old then, the IBC tank in my garage is about 24.

Tonight I checked it and it was changing between .6 to .9 so I thought I'd change the resin. Last reading after that and it's still about .7 to .8

Could this be the tds meter although it was brand new when I started wfp around 6 weeks ago? Or am I missing something (apart from a wfp braincell obvs :)

Cheers

Fin

Is it a inline TDs metre your using as they are not as accurate as a hand held one

Check the tds before the resin. If the reading is the same for both after the RO and after the resin then it's obviously a resin problem. It could either be duff resin although very unlikely if it's been stored properly. Depending on the type of DI it could just be something as simple as the seals not seating properly so that the water isn't flowing through the resin canister and thus bypassing it which would then give the same reading as it seems you are getting. Is it a DI that's part of the RO? What type if not? Easier to help if we know the type.

Ok I'll try that in the morning, i have a vessel DI, how do you check the seals are correct? I have the vessel standing in a bucket on the van and it was 1/4 full of water so I expect there is a leak either at the hoses or the lid.

Calibrate your meter ;)

You can buy calibration fluid from most WFP suppliers, particularly RO-man.

Once you know your meter is accurate you will have a better idea of what (if anything) is wrong.
