I've just spent £350 getting 15,000 of these printed up on 220mg gloss paper:

...have I been overcharged?

Remember you have to clean more carpets to recoup the cost of expensive leaflets, and in my opinion, the expensive leaflets on thicker paper etc do not get you any more or higher paying custards......

In fact I had more success with home made ones during and experimental phase I went through......

Buy a second hand RISO printer off ebay and print your own.

Will print hundreds in minutes. Your headline and your copy get the calls not expensive glossy paper with meaningless drivel on it.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I've had my RISO 5 years, it lives in an unheated garage. It has never broken down, never been serviced. The people who sold it to me also supply the cheapest paper in the country, as you know Ian.

Ive got mine on a £200 a years service contract as the Company charges £100 an hour plus parts  if not.

Only problem is have not been able to use it much this year.

But will make up for it soon.

Just interested Wynne and Hector Do you just stick to A4 or do you have cutting machine
to make A5

Sometimes I wish I had A3 model

Ian

I do/did A4 with four advert boxes on.

You can even persuade another trade to buy one of the boxes or share distribution. I tested thoroughly compared to the same copy on colour a5, A6 card etc and there was little difference even in posh areas.

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Ian

I am more home made than that... I use A4 paper and do 2 leaflets on it, however I use a steel ruler and sharp stanley knife to cut them in half.....

I have it down to a fine art now, and you would not know that I have not got a cutting machine to see them now.....

I've been reading this thread with interest as I have been printing my own leaflets lately as I acquired a laser printer which can print 500 leaflets in a few minutes. New cartridge can print approx 18,000 leaflets and costs £30 just wondering how much these Riso printers compare on cost, i.e how much is the ink and how many A4 sheets can you print?

I presently do a single A4 printed on colored paper, although I am planning on printing on the back soon. Found that I get a slightly better response than so called professional A6 or A5 printed leaflets.  My only gripe is that as I print an A4 with the text in 3 columns I have to manually fold it in 3 to post through letter boxes.

Just out of interest Ian & Wynee what sort of response do you get per 1,000, I'm getting just over 3 jobs booked per 1,000.

how much time are you spending printing your own leaflets?

I pay £211 for 30k full colour, glossy leaflets delivered to my distribution company......why would I want to waste my time doing them my self?
