Builders cleans - I hate em !
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:45:07 pm »
Went for a job. A new care home being built in our town.
Now I was honest with the guys; I don't like builder's cleans but would consider it if I had a chance of the regular clean. Well, cut a long story short, the CEO has agreed verbally to my regular price.
We are now doing the builders clean......
I think plasteres are the messyest workers I know.......why did they have to paint the  frams with plaster
Monday was OK........got stuck in...did all the upstairs.
Today the novelty wore off........ ::)
Ah well. 3/4 way through............inside.
Then, next week......outside..........blast em wiv me SIX  ;D

OK.......winge over back at it tommorow

we all hate them.

I will only go near them if there is payment at the end of each day at a huge price, as well as a bomb proof scratch waver.
if it is dirty it is fair game

If you use the right chemicals they are quite easy. There's stuff made to remove plaster, cement, etc and stuff for removing labels quickly.

Most windies seriously under price the job. I think of what I'd be charging for a domestic first clean and triple it.

I did 5 first cleans today on a small estate on which the houses were approx. 5 years old. Whilst they weren't exactly builders' cleans, every bathroom window on each house was still covered in sticky goo. Each house had 3 bathrooms. Some of this goo was also in evidence around the edges of the other windows as well.

My already knackered brillo pad manfully died serving beyond the call of duty, but the end results were 5 well pleased customers and a well happy me knowing next time the job will be a doddle.  :)

It definitely does not begin with M.

M for all it's magic wouldn't touch plaster, etc or remove labels that are designed not to come off.

As for what chemicals - unlike some on this forum, some secrets are mine gained through experience and trial and error, but a good look through a builders merchants chemicals is all that's needed.

I did get a contract sorted for the builders clean. And I am pretty confident the CEO won't back of his word. But, as soon as this is done, I will be sending him a annual job order.
Thanks guys

A touch of watered down brick acid / patio cleaner will remove plaster in no time we use it on site all the time however be careful its dangerous stuff when mixed with ladders.

Nope, I definately don't want to 'spit it out'. Why would I? I run a business not a free advisory service unless of course, you want to pay me.

And yes, I'm a miserable old git.  ;D

Try Tar & Glue remover for the gooey stuff or nail varnish remover(plain one) and a bit of Acid 80 on a small sponge for the cement and plaster (wera gloves etc)
