Been asked if I can remover rust marks from concrete and block paving, I thought yes used what I normally use on carpets didn’t work. Any recommendations

Soak the area then apply Hydrochloric Acid. If just a small area use a paint brush to apply, if large then a sprayer better.

Buy from a local supplier which is likely to be about 16%. You can dilute this down a bit with water, about 2 water : 1 acid. Add the acid to the water, not the other way around and def wear PPE.

Tried acid before mate.. thats all we used in London for years, if its been there a while, its a nightmare to get out...

Although you are right, it does work and thats what all rust removers have in them, the hydrochloric, but ive had very mixed results...some vanishes with acid, some takes a few coats, and some doesnt budge.. i just get the wetblaster out now mate, little bit of sand and 2 mins and its gone..

I've applied 36% HC that I told you about to rust on concrete and didn't budge.

The American's go on about Oxalic Acid. I bought some, it came as a white powder, not liquid. Must need to use more than the 400g I had though for it to be effective. I bought it from Mistral Chemicals in Ireland.

I forgot about Oxalic Acid. Rust Remover and Wood Brightener.

My supplier selles this for £1.97 a Kg, minimum order is 25Kg.

If all the paving is that type of concrete then Oxalic acid might well work, you would have to do the whole paving with the Ox as it will brighten the paving as well.
Tensid do a poultice for rust removal, so might be worth speaking to them to see if they will send you a sample to test.
Another product is Tensid's Limestone restorer.

To be honest Roger we only got involved when our commercial customer noticed we removed rust marking on there carpets and ask us to give it a go, this is newly laid concrete also on block paving.

I see you cover London can we pass your number on to them they are just the other side of Blackwell tunnel

You can use lemon juice or white vinegar. Apply it on the stain and leave it for 5 minutes and then scrub the stained area by using nylon bristled brush or use tooth brush. Then after 5 minutes wash it off with clean water and if the stain remains then repeat the process.
