Unreasonable??
« on: August 24, 2012, 01:07:23 pm »
I basically offer 3 ways to pay your bill, cash, cheque and online. The cheques and online payments are taking way too long, despite requesting for payments to be made within 7 days of receiving your windows cleaned slip, I am therefore thinking of changing it too "We kindly request that your payment is made within 3 days of receiving your windows cleaned slip" Is this an unreasonable amount of time to expect a customer to pay their bill??

Just let it roll in as and when - as long as the % never rises its all good.

I give people till their next months clean!

If you are having trouble one way to lower the float is to clean the worst payers on a saturday. They'll be in and therefore either

remember to pay because they have seen you do the work
pay there and then
tell you how/when they will pay.

I find a good % of my work is in on saturdays

i do 7 days and send a reminder text for those who go over 14.
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

Don't put in writing that they have any time at all - or put payment by return please.

You don't have to enforce it if they are on hols do you?
It's a game of three halves!

If they are ignoring 7 days why would they take any notice of 3 days?

I have about 10% to 15% outstanding at any one time. So if it's about that, I wouldn't worry. So long as they pay by the next clean. To get your set up this far, you need more customers than you have at the moment. If you had enough customers, you wouldn't have a cash flow "problem". So the best way to solve any problems with this game is put more customers in your business.

If you can put one customer in, you can put another one in and so on and so on. Keep doing this untill you can't keep on top of your work, then get rid of the customers that pay too late or not at all. Then carry on putting customers into your business.

Notice a pattern here?
No still don't understand, I must be thick

I agree, more customers would solve cash flow and thats the aim of the company, to keep growing. From Monday to Friday, on average I will of received perhaps half of my turnover, if I'm lucky!!

If you are going to give a time limit in which to pay you also need to tell them what will happen if they do not pay. There must be consequences if they do not pay ball.
Terms and conditions.
On my payment slip it states: If you pay in excess of the allowed payment time ( 5 DAYS ),a chase up fee will be charged of £2  This fee will be added on for each month there after UNTIL PAYMENT IS MADE.

as someone already stated they will still ignore 3 days if they're ignoring 7 days.

Bob Plumb will be along soon to tell you to get them on standing order however i just put my slow payers on this before they get dumped if they refuse to go on standing order ......... sometimes people who are slow payers are just really really busy people so this option would work for them and soon identify the plain crap / non payers if they wont go onto standing order.

Ive been going 2 1/2 years and prob dumped and replaced over 100 customers who were crap payers mine now all great payers bar the odd slip here and there but comes with the job ... all you can do is to canvass, clean and cull the dross.
