Taming the python
« on: August 03, 2012, 05:59:47 am »
Hi everyone - it's my first post here  :)

I'm a start-up and have a question for you pros:
My 25m extraction hose is a beast to man-handle, especially when trying to coil it up to move about.  Do you have any tips for managing the thing? it's got a life of its own.

...not very professional...

David.

If the solution and vac hoses are zip tied together, separate them. Run the hoses out straight before trying to coil them up.

Hi Simon, tnx for the fast reply.

They're not tied together at this time - I'd need be a  black-belt to manage then then  ;D

No, it's simply getting the hose together to move it about... I bought a net bag for it, once it's in the bag it's  easily managed - but getting it in isn't. My arms just aren't big enough to contain the huge coils.

Hi David

Do you mean 25ft? as lengths normally come in 25ft or 50ft as opposed to your 25m (82ft). Anyway, yes as Simon says - straighten it out and curl it in to a circle as you go, simples.

Welcome aboard by the way, & dont forget to backup your data regularly  ;)

If it is 25 Meters then perhaps you should consider making it shorter and more manageable lengths...
Perhaps cutting it in half and then then one of the halves in half again.... then you only need to get out the lengths that you actually need..... and join them together as and when you need to extend.....

just a thought....  ;D ;D

No, it's the standard 25ft.  It just feels like 25m  :)

You soon get into a routine, just takes practice.  I have 50ft of 2" hose and that can be a pain but again when you get use to it, its a doddle. :)

Before we had the TM we used to put our hoses in a big plastic tub just coil them in.

The vac hoses in first then the pressure hose on top.

Hi Clinton... I've just checked your details out. You operate in an adjacent area to me, and have a similar strategy.  Let me know if you want to hook up sometime for a chat/mutual support.

David

The hose you have is very stiff compared with some others the easiest way for me is to make the first loop
then wrap a velcro tie round them then continue rolling hope this helps

Crikey if you're struggling with 25ft of 1.5" hose you must be doing something very wrong!!!  It's a piece of p**s

Try 50ft of 2" truckmount hose!!

You don't have to have it out dead straight but without any tight curls in it... stick your foot on the end and feed it in to a coil, twisting with both hands as you go to make the coil of hose.  I used to put the coils on edge in a big plastic storage box when I used portables.
