Question
« on: August 02, 2012, 10:30:43 am »
my machines a 24hp, belt drive pump. Now, im not getting the full 200 bar out of the pump.. occasionally i do but mostly it just winds up to about 170ish. I know Lee mentioned in another post about his Yanmar not having enough power to give the full pump output, but surely the 24hp must have enough.

I know the pulley size on the pump for the belt will have something to do with it, dropping the revs like a gearbox, but could it be something else? the unloader is working fine, not water return when the trigger is pulled.

Im just trying to get the maximum out of my kit.

Also, when i let go of the trigger, the pressure spikes. This normal?

The spike is normal. Providing the pump is turning at the correct speed which should probably be half motor speed I would be looking at a valve issue given the unloader is not by-passing. Filters etc are all ok ? Belt tight and unloader is wound up ?

Yeah, all belts are tight mate. Unloader is wound up, and working because i can lower the pressure. Just when i tighten it the pressure rises to about 170bar then no matter how much i wind it after that it doesn't move.

My next question, and its probably a stupid one, is if it spikes to over 200bar when the pressure is set at 170, then if it was set and running constant 200 bar, when you let go of the trigger, wouldn't it spike to a dangerous level for the pump?

Someone else mentioned valves to me today, but i just changed all the valves and seals no more than 2 months ago.

may seem obvious but do you have the right size nozzle in it? you should have a 045 nozzle doing 200 bar at 15 litre, anything bigger will lose pressure, also, your nozzles may be worn after long use so that could affect it... another thing to look for is look at your pressure guage when the machine is turned off, where does it settle?
I know these are obvious, simple things but because of that they can be easily overlooked when troubleshooting

Funny you should say that mate, was on a job tonight using the turbo and it was running perfect at 200 bar so its got to be my fan nozzle. need to change it. My pressure gauge reads 0 when the triggers not pressed because it all dumps back to the tank.  ive always used 05 nozzles and they have read 200bar but i guess as soon as they wear just a little bit they drop the pressure cause they are for 16lpm.

For the 202 sat about now with knackered gearbox so put the 201 back on. The machine problem we've had recently has been a nightmare. Shaft and a gearbox cracking off through vibrations, crazy.

Gonna get a twin turbo, 2 x 05's set up for the big pump an see what that's like.

How bigs the big pump youve got? Was looking at getting a 32lpm instead of the 202 but probably wouldnt need one with that much flow. pain in the arse changing to a bigger pump and having to upgrade all the nozzles. Cant wait to run the new 20inch whirlaway with the 202 though. Will make jobs so much quicker.
