my SLX is over a year old now.ive replaced the base end cap as it had worn away and the 2 top pole sections have worn at the top causing them to spin if i dont clamp them about 3 inches from the top.

what do you suggest as i really dont want to replace the two top sections?

im sure i read somewhere about using araldite.mix it up and carefully apply a thin layer on the worn section.let it dry.then sand down a bit and this will grip the worn section for a few months.

the section stop tape on my pole is still intact on all sections.the clamps are still working fine and are not loose.the rest of the pole is fine.

this pole is my main pole and gets used and abused daily.im hoping to get another year or so out of it before buying another!!

If its still in that good nick Daz then rather than fating about sanding and coating i would just replace the top two sections

Just done it with mine Daz.

Epoxy resin from wickes is what I used. I applied it with a small paint brush but put far too much on. It took me a while to sand it back.

I had this problem and solved it by buying a whole new set of clamps and an end cone from Gardiners, then sawing off the top 3 inches of each section and epoxy glueing the new clamps on - SLX 25 is now an SLX 24.5  It works perfectly and you effectively have a new pole for the price of the glue and clamps.

thanks guys!i think ill do what carl has done and order the 2 top clamps and saw a bit off each worn section.good idea! .

there is plenty of life left in my pole yet before needing replacing!!

This is really worth doing with an older pole and will completely refresh the sections. It is worth noting though that you should only apply the very thinnest of smears to the surface, almost like you are just filling in the scratches. Then when you sand it down it will only need the lightest of sanding to remove any ridges which you may have left. Why dont you buy 2 replacement clamps, ghen turn each pole section upside down, so the worn area is now below where the end stop tape will be.

This would not actually work as the most wear occurs on the overlaps at the base of each pole.

The only way to completely get rid of this is either to re-finish the surface or cut off the top of each section before gluing on a new clamp.

Put tape around the worn part approx two inches worth which acts as a stop.The material under the clamp is then thicker, the clamp will then work and stop the pole from spinng.And you haven't reduced the length of the pole.
