I have a small domestic cleaning business but I want to be a window cleaner because more money.

My plan is to get a van and WTP system. Was talking to someone about it and the person brought up a good point, because I'm based in East London, where am I going to find parking space?

Is this a common problem in window cleaning? Does that mean I have to use the ladders?

i was wondering the same ,as i was down in Bath and london did not see one window cleaner and wonderd how i would cope being a wfp van mount cleaner in these busy streets

lol, relax, no need to get judgemental so quickly. I'm asking a serious question. Saw a window cleaner few days ago climbing up the ladder and he was standing in front of the window by balancing himself with one hand and cleaning the window with the other hand! How dangerous.

ive actually been wondering the same thing lately and my city is no where near as bis as london! also whats the rules with driving on pedestrian parts of the high street? do you have to finish by 9 or 10 am or something like that?

I'm based in Leytonstone, East London. I suppose I can work at near by areas with less people. Basically I would have to work at zone 5 where there are slightly more parking space.

I find it fine working off yellow and double yellow lines as mainly in london i target front only houses so im always close enough to the van and in daytime you can pretty much always find a space to park, its more grief finding a space in the evening in busy areas to canvass. So far in 7 years i have never been done so at a guess you will be fine. I do a lot over by whipps cross hospital and walthamstow in east london and parking is fine over there

Don't know why some people are giving him grief for asking the question?  
I know Leytonstone fairly well and it's one of those places where nearly every road has yellow lines or you have to have a permit from the council to park in designated bays.
Some areas have parking meters where you can buy a ticket but adding to the hassle is the amount of cars in the area, making actually find somewhere to park hard work!
I think if you could build a round up in that area you would be looking at having to walk some of your round either with ladders or a wfp trolley/backpack system.

I'm in the process of giving up working in East London because both the constant parking problem and also because of the traffic. The problem isn't only traffic wardens and actually finding a parking spot, yellow lines or not, it's getting tickets by camera.

Also, a trolley system is an absolute must. Yesterday I did a job and the nearest parking spot I could find was about 300 yds away.

Having said that, getting work in the areas I work in (Aldgate to Bow) seems to be fairly easy because there aren't many window cleaners because of the parking problems.

This takes me back about 35 years ... Bob our window cleaner used to leave his ladders in our garden along with his bucket ... do his days work .. drop em off and go home on the bus .. my mum got her windows cleaned a little bit cheaper for her trouble. ..... maybe summit like this would still work today in the areas u describe ... of course u have to be a "proper" windy and none of this new fangled water fed pole malarkey

I wouldn't for the next 4 to 6 weeks especially down towards Bow. Not only is there the Olympics at Stratford, but there's all the Olympic car lanes.

The area is going to be one big solid heaving mess of a traffic jam.

Like I mentioned, I can get away from Leytonstone or use a system where I can move it around.

I will try to avoid the ladders but I will have one just incase I need it. Seriously I was so shocked when I saw that window cleaner standing in front of the window of the second floor!

I don't mind to walk my round if they are close enough. I'm thinking just park the van somewhere close and put a sign on it that says "just parking here for an hour" or something. During day time it should be easy to find a parking space within walking distance.

I don't think putting any type of sign on your van will make the slightest difference to a traffic warden. I don't know so much about Leytonstone but around the area I work in East London, parking spaces are like gold dust.

As for a way around the parking problem, with some customers I use their visitors scratch cards but there still the constant problem of finding where to park.

To be honest, I think your best bet is to drive outwards from London. You're right near the M11 and not far from the M25.

I am all for helping people but they could often help themselves by thinking about the daft questions they often ask before typing away. Most answers can be found by doing a search but they're straight in with a new topic. If they took 5 minutes to think about what they are asking then they could often come up with the answer themselves.
