One for the kitchen extract cleaners
« on: July 03, 2012, 10:32:22 pm »
Hi guys,

Went for a meeting yesterday for my window cleaning company with a local medium sized cleaning company and had a pretty generic meeting will the old " Yeah, if anything comes in I'll give you a call." Then as the meeting was starting to draw to a close he said "Can you do anything else?" So I kind of shrugged my shoulders and said "Well I'm a qualified canopy and extract cleaner." so the guy lit up and was telling me that there is loads of work he can get hold of as the last firm he was using let him down, by the sound of it they went in to loads of kitchens and cleaned the canopies but never touched the ducting and it caused murder.
I think this is going to bring me in quite a lot of work and what I've been thinking of doing is instead of bolting it on to my window cleaning company I'm thinking of setting another company and running them as two separate entities. I was thinking of starting this type of company up anyway but I think this could be my opportunity to do it now rather than later.
What do you guys who run this type of company think I should do? I've been thinking of starting it up and then maybe trying to get accreditation with HVCA Now B&Es.

Hi Colley,

I think this is something you should definitely pursue, there are huge openings for people in this field in the Uk, my company supply eco friendly Degreaser & Deep Cleaning Pads to many contractors in this field.

There are a lot of people in this field who actually dont know how to clean stainless steel properly, they use caustic & corrosive degreasers and sanitisers that cause detrimental damage to surfaces. Many of the start up guys that I supply have gone from strength to strength and made a lot money. When kitchen staff/head chefs see exactly what you can do and how it should be cleaned they are eating out of your hand.

If you need any help just let me know

It would have to be good at 61 euros for 5 litres of degreaser.

Hi Colley

Those are retail prices you are seeing on our web site, of course to the trade its much cheaper
€38.00 per 5ltr concentrate which will produce 70 x 750ml ready to use spray bottles working out
at €0.55 per ready to use bottle. Bio-kleen is safe to use on any surface thats washable with water
and will not cause any detrimental damage to kitchen surfaces unlike conventional caustic and corrosive
based degreasers and sanitisers.

Where can you get training and accreditation for cleaning the ducting

Jim I went to a place in Devon.

I've been seriously thinking about this all week. I went into a cafe today to have a bit of lunch and spotted that they had a canopy that was big enough to have about 4 filters in but it was side on to me so I couldn't see them. Above this was about 15- 20 feet of ducting that would need access panels fitting. I asked the owner if she needed it cleaning and she said she wanted a price. What sort of price should I be charging for a small canopy this size?

How dirty is it?
Were the filters slotted or wire fronted?
