If you were in the position................

If you were in the position to offer any cleaning related service what would it be?

Why would you choose the service and how would you make it stand out?

I have been looking into shot blasting now for quite some time and have been looking at the various methods. I want a drive in preparation area in my unit, for cars & larger items, also a portable unit.

There is a Farrow system on Ebay - it has been there for about 2 months now and he has reduced the price by £1500.00 but is still too much.

Not convinced which is the right method for me.

Hi rob,
my uncle does shot blasting he's got a blast room on site and does mobile.

them farrow systems are aright but there only 189 cfm my uncle has just upgraded to a 400 cfm from his 250cfm and there is such a power difference.

there allot of money for a basically a 180cfm compressor blast pot and a couple of metal water tanks on a trailer.

Yes I had figured out that it was all on the CFM, there is actually two on Ebay now.

I like the idea of dry ice blasting as well, looks very clean. I know Carl has one but I don't know enough about the sizes of the different set ups.

Dry ice looks like a much cleaner option - I don't know!!!!???

Company near me, Dudley Cleaning had a purpose equipped container rigged up for blasting.

I pass them some paint removal jobs, I can't be doing with chem stripping no more. Too much hassle.

Look at the price for a basic set up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuqhHxShUyo http://www.centurywise.co.uk

Then just hire a compressor. That £15k one is too much.

I know, I agree with you - a large compressor secondhand for about five and then a couple of grand for the rest, eight tops and then stick it all on a flat bed.

Hows business?

Lee - any idea of the rates on local work, I think I can really use a blasting set up but whether it is dry ice or media I need to get further info on.

Rob,

Business is going well,
Got loads of school kitchens to get through over summer holidays,
quite a bit of pressure washing & builders cleans recently,
Quoting every other day and getting go ahead for 95% of work.
Waiting to hear on a few decent sized contracts,
All's good!
Tim.

Hi rob
as for the dry ice blasting I have no experience just Googled it and it sounds just as messy

from Wikipedia

Dry ice-blasting is a form of abrasive blasting, where dry ice, the solid form of carbon dioxide, is accelerated in a pressurized air stream and directed at a surface in order to clean it.
The method is similar to other forms of abrasive blasting such as sand blasting, plastic bead blasting, or sodablasting but substitutes dry ice as the blasting medium.[1] Dry-ice blasting leaves no chemical residue as dry ice sublimates at room temperature.

that blasting really is a messy business. but it does pay well. as for the cfm my uncle has a 180 cfm that is used for lighter mobile stuff like oak beams barns ect he had it all mounted on a trailer like the farrow system but de-mounted it all as he finds it easier to have the pot hose media ect in the van and just tow the compressor.

have a look at the quill falcon system thats a wet and dry unit.

I have come across the Quill Falcon system but you have reminded me of it again.

I will have a look tomorrow.

Dry ice might be as messy but you don't have the media to clean up, only what is blown off the surface. I want to know whether there is the same upgrades of machinery offering higher CFM (or whatever it is in dry ice blasting).

The principle of dry ice looks quite phenomenal but why is it not as widely used??

Rob,
It could be because its mega expensive to get the dry ice? i dont know,
All you have to pick up is the dirt that drops off underneath.
It looks really easy.
It didnt look really abrasive, was looking on you tube the other day,
they used it on different types of things and it didnt mark them or anything.
