I have just ordered some supplies off the internet. Fairly major supplier, clean4less. The items arrived very quickly, and I am very pleased with them but there is no receipt in the box. There a packing note but no receipt.

This is not the first time it has happened with different suppliers, in fact its becoming the norm. I am supposed (in fact I am required by law) to keep proper receipts for all my purchases. How can I do that when they don't send one?
So I am just about to send them a message saying that I can't use them in future but I thought that I would see what other people thought about it.

a different supplier - the other week i returned some items in person and i was accused of returning goods from some other firm. he called me over to show me his screen,id only got 1 order on it . yet iv orderred stuff for 4 yrs or more , a regular customer ,i must have at least 10 invoices

he asked could i email him photocopies of all my previous orders/invoices for his records .  bluddy cheek !

What makes me laugh is when the customer says i will pay you cash so you don't have to pay tax   eerrrr no it all goes through the books thank you mrs.

I've noticed the same.  

Alot of companies give you the option to print an invoice at the time of ordering online.  Generally when I print one off - another arrives with the goods.

Bought some stuff from Northern tools recently and they post the invoice to you separately.

You have to print the invoice off when ordering, if you don't, it's your own fault. Many web companies do this now.

everything ive ever ordered for my business online vince ive got a receipt every time.ive used brodex,pure freedom,windowcleancentre,gardiners etc.

surely you can go to your email box and print a receipt from your email confirmation from your order.

I know that I can download something on this order but its not a proper receipt. It is just a statement of the order. There is no vat number for example.
Anyway, how do I print off something when I am sitting in my van while the rain lashes down ordering on my phone?

They are required by law to give you a proper receipt. If they don't I won't use them it as simple as that. Plenty more who do give receipts.

i agree you can order on phone laptop pad etc not evryone wants or has a desktop printer set up i'm thinking of getting rid of mine ... so can you just pop a receipt in the box please suppliers

I only use paypal and print the receipt + save the order email in a work folder as backup.

I am with you Vince. To many go into business not knowing how to run one.Its just bad business practice.Sloppy business is the modern way. You see this every day on here,folk thing its there choice to run a business the way they want.

As already mentioned, when buying online there is always an option to print a invoice. Like it or not, its how many businesses operate now and reduces their costs in ink & paper.

I always send invoices as pdf files for the same reasons.

If you pay with paypal you automatically get a receipt emailed to you.
Its easier than giving your card details every time.

Vince, everyone knows that you cant print from a phone, but you would wait until you got home and read the confirmation email which normally provides an option to print your invoice via their website link.

Also, a receipt is not required by law but an invoice is which I'm guessing is what you meant.

Oh yes they are if the transaction carries VAT a VAT receipt must be issued.
