They are required by law to give you a proper receipt.

Thats your first mistake. They're not.

Oh yes they are if the transaction carries VAT a VAT receipt must be issued.

You do not have to supply a VAT receipt unless the customer specifically asks for one at the time of purchase.

My pet hate is when i fillup with fuel at asda garage normally early in the morning . I have to use their self pay pumps and most of the time I can never get a reciept. Bloody annoying!!!!!
