Got a email today from a customer whos drive i cleaned a while ago. going on about the weeds coming back quickly. anyone recommend some good weed killer i can easily get my hands on? Not looking for the big shed stuff, need some good heavy duty stuff. would like to get some residual stuff to spray on after a clean that will keep working after ive gone.

Weeds are ultimately unstoppable, so it depends how long ago you put it down and what sort of promises you made.

A good result would be a year, but conditions would have to be perfect for this.

I always put a residual down after sanding, this way it soaks into the sand and I have found this gives the best longer term results. Many happy custy's doing this, I am also honest from the off. I tell them that weeds will come back, sooner or later.

I get mine from a local supplier but since Sodium Chlorate was banned even the supplier says it's a struggle trying to succeed againt the weed

Ultimatley it is the customers responsibility to control any weeds that appear. I always point this out to them once the job is finished and never had any problems.

tell the customer to get a bottle of roundup and spray the weeds if they see them coming back.be upfront about it and i find they appreciate this. i would not guarantee no weeds cos you will be committed to constantly re visiting the job.

 a second course for motor driven applicators

Mike what did you actually get from the course ? Qualification wise ?

I was under the impression it was NPTC that controlled training for the use of pesticides / Knapsacks, their courses are for 2 days plus an individual assessment / test in turn gives you Pa1 & Pa6.

Yeah, i looked at that course. its close by to me and its £320 for two days. NPTC qualifications.

these are the coursess I sent my operative on 2 years ago, he did 2  no mention was made of any licence needed to use pestisides my son is doing the same courses in september.

i've got to be honest i've never really looked into a 'licence' are you saying you need some sort of legal/goverment document to apply weedkiller

I thought you were allowed to spray over the counter weedkillers as long is it was from a hand sprayer. But for a knapsack sprayer you need a liscence

As I understand it... If you are a contractor working on a site domestic or commercial using a knapsack you need PA1 (foundation module) and PA6 (PA6 covers the hand held sprayers) its similar to IPAF it gives you certificate of competence.
If you spray near water also need Pa6aw + should inform local environment agency ..
we got caught out a few years back for not holding the so called 'licence'
