GX390 Runs for an hour then dont start?
« on: June 08, 2012, 06:00:34 pm »
Honda GX390 Gonna get it >:(

Would appreciate your help guys.

Last week it ran fine. Then turned it off, had a cuppa went back and nothing. Cranked it 15 times, packed up and went home.

Took it to a pw repair shop the next day. The guy cranked it and it started 1st time. Done my head in half way through a job so asked him to give it the once over.

Get a call to say all done £200 :-X (charged me for a service) Was gonna kick off but decided to just pay up and shut up.

Gets to a job this morning starts fine on and off 5 or 6 times. Stop for half an hour..WONT START.  >:( >:(

Ring up the repair shop and just get "dunno mate" never heard of it before...why dont you book it in :'(

Sick of getting mugged off....Can anyone help?

Done some google..Checked the air filter its dry as a bone.....released the fuel cap so no vacuum.

,Got to do the rest of the job tomorow. Already 2 week late and its only half done.

Help?...... anyone?.......even if its "Ive got a 12 bore and Ill help you blow it up!"

could it be the engine is simply flooded, turn of the petrol and try starting it if it starts then turn petrol on.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

Has this just been happening in the rain?

If so, when turned of cover your machine. I learned this a few years ago after a monsoon whiulst on a job. Worked fine whilst running as nice and hot, turn off, cool down, get damp, no start.

Blast Away

I don't know how experienced you are with pressure washers so don't think it's coming across the wrong way but is it simply a case of you not releasing the pressure in the trigger?

It is well worth checking the valve clearances - its sounds like the clearances have closed and are too tight. When they are cold the metal contracts but when hot expand and the valve dos'nt seat and you get no compression.

Only do a monthly drive thru and dont know much about pressure washers, am I right in thinking if you dont release the pressure in the trigger when youve turned it off it wont start again? I always release the pressure but didnt know not doing so would cause problems.

So thanks for your advice but its not that, would appreciate any other suggestions blast away as I dont think I can deal with these guys trying to mug me off again. I paid for the unwanted service, but in the words of George Bush, fool me once shame on you, ermmm fool me twayce ermmm ye caynt git fooled agaaain!

At the risk of sounding like a nana.. What are the valve clearances and can I learn to check them myself. There is only one repair place in my area (that I know about) and they done me for £200 to fit an air filter/spark plug and oil change.

Its not the rain because its in the back of the transit. Is it possible for the clearances just close? Really strange as It started first time, six times this morning. Tried it again tonight. 8 hours later and still nothing.

Thanks for your post pristine. Would be great if this is the case. Sensor issue would fit because there is nothing. Just like no fuel in the tank.

Happened before and after a full service though. Will defo check it out.

BVC - where are you ? You must be able to find a mower or small local plant hire firm near you.

Ipswich.  But it seems to me no one will even look at me for less than £40 an hour.

Seriously If one more person tells me to "book it in" so we can look at it im gonna book THEM IN!

I thought wfp was bad. Man was I wrong. :'(

Worth checking oil float switch as previously mentioned, but doubt it is the problem as its just been serviced. For the life of me cant remember the name of it rectangular box next to on / off switch these can break down cause intermittent starting - very rare, had one go on a Honda yrs ago - But only a service 'ctr' can check it.

Also check no blockages in fuel line and you are getting constant flow, no debris stuck.

If it was me I would take it back to the guys that serviced it, as it never had problem before get them to fix it, if they are half decent should have a machine you can use whilst they sort problem - Thats why you paid Premium for service! I wouldnt except any extra costs.
