Aeroplane tax allowance
« on: May 28, 2012, 09:30:21 am »
We've recently won a contract to clean a large site down in exeter and I'm just about to fly down there to do a site survey in my old mans piper light aircraft.

Its only a 1.5hr flight as opposed to a 4 hour drive.

Will the costs be tax deductable?

Cheers Dean.

how very posh :)
now, if you had said you were going down in your learjet- well, thats something else

I'm guessing the whole trip is deductible, after all your paying for fuel, time, landing /handling fees etc... no different if you had rocked up in a van(but with wings)

And the exits are here, here and here and pull hard on the toggle to inflate

Enjoy your trip-its a lovely day so there will be lots to see 8)
I had 7 years in the infantry-now if you want to talk about bricking it-try low level contour flying in the back of a chinook!
So man up-its only a piper ;)

If that were the case, Dean could hire a chauffer and a rolls royce; no stuff that; hire a helicopter and go do the quote and put the full cost against your tax.

However, if I was the tax man and inspected your books, I'd only allow mileage claimed at something like 35p per mile; mileage calculated by quickest possible route on autoroute.

And the rest you'd have to foot.

You're probably best checking it out with an accountant.

No you can't - it's 240 miles from Manchester to Exeter.

Dean - my old man was an accountant for a metal manufacturer. In the seventies he flew in a little plane from Filton to Anglesey to do some work at anglesey Aluminium and another time to Belgium to look at a zinc producing plant over there.

So his employer was counting it as a business expense - so why not?

A fellow jw friend of mine did computer work on the North Sea Oil rigs week on and week off - he flew to Aberdeen and Helicoptered out as a business expense as a Director of his own small company.

Ask the Revenue.
It's a game of three halves!

Thanks Gold,

I'm sure that we flew passed Filton today.

I'm not much for flying if I'm honest. We are staying in Exeter tonight and heading back tomorrow.

Thanks again,

Dean.
