3 months on the glass
« on: May 27, 2012, 04:00:23 pm »
After my career change ,I have been shining for 3 months now,I may not be earning half of what I was ,but I work no weekends unless I wish to do so,and days like today ,lovely weather few chilled lagers whilst the kids have a run around Margate beach makes it all worthwhile, back hustling tommorow though.

Just love how the simplicity in window cleaning can earn you a good living whilst providing good flexibility and time off, just love it when customers comment on me earning pocket money ,I just smile collect cash and move on.

Hi Magic
What did you do before?
I was in IT this is only my second week of not "going in to work" finding it takes some getting used to especially when I don't have full weeks work to hammer away at.
It is coming - but a lot slower than I would like.

Was in the police/prison service for 8 years,so long shifts, steady pay generous holiday just a little stressful and didn't fancy being on similar wages and conditions in 30 years time ,so thought let's give this a go,I'm not full and only have a few days work per week, but when full can't see myself looking back its jus if and when I get there.

18 years on the glass now for me! ;) ;D ;D ;D

its the simplicity, flexibility and low stress that makes this business worthwhile coupled with fresh air, meeting different people and good money for hours worked.

it can get really boring at times though.make sure you start saving up an emergency fund in a separate account from your tax etc because things WILL GO WRONG!!

van repairs, illness or injury and you wont have any money coming in.really bad weather can also dent your earnings considerably when you least expect it(just before xmas for example)if it snows heavily.

all in all though its great being your own boss!!

best wishes

Thanks for the advice and the positives!!!
I'm expecting about 2 years to start feeling secure about paying the bills and getting what I would consider a decent round etc..
Must say the last few days cleaning out in the open air is a world away from the constantly ringing phones and the IT helpdesk. I know it won't always  be so pleasant but reckon I could get used to it  ;D
Making up some leaflets then I will have to follow Roy's example.

Im 2 years in now just about and got full round (cheated as hit 100 customers and bought a biggish round)

It does take about 2 years to have well sorted customers who dont mess you around or crap payers.

Im now at stage of taking on a part timer for 3 days a week as full to bursting as every month customers are not getting done on time so poor service and loss of income.

Once you get to about 200 ish customers they tend to start finding you and the snowball effect kicks in - unfair as you need em in early days but thats how this business is  ;D

Hi Granny
Thanks for your kind words :) :)
Never been an example before but I'm chuffed that your liking my work :) :)

and hello to magic too
keep plugging away my friend-it will get easier and easier as you chip away at it.The work will get to a point were it will start to come to you.
And as already stated, its sooooo much better than being in an office/factory/prison enviroment.Especially when we got the good weather like now 8)
It really takes balls to give up that security of a steady income to make this work, but the rewards are more of an emotional type than fiscal.
Less stress, shorter hours, work to suit you, answer to no one-you cant beat it really

Good luck to you all in your business's this week

regards
Roy

I believe the way to build any business is to leaflet so much they must think you a 3 poeple doing the leafleting. Change to design of your leaflet and rotate so that if one does not work the next one will.Try to keep it fresh. Knock doors and chat to as many as you can I chat every one I see.I will flood an area with me until every knows who i am and what I do.I chose a area and hit it so hard I am a house hold name.I drive around and greet every body as if I know them all.I compliments mother on how beautiful there kids are. I get like a new virus. This area I started with has about 400 homes and I dominate with more the half on my books. I am know doing the same to two more areas using the same way I have done in the past.I know many will say the folk must hate me but I just am so nice to everyone they will not complain.
