Shocked by my son!!!
« on: May 27, 2012, 12:52:57 pm »
My 19 year old son, who is widely regarded as a lazy waster with no interest in working, especially by me and his mum, asked for a job the other day.

He's been offered the chance to work for us quite a few times and so far he's never failed to let us down - his work is fine but getting the little buggar up at 5am is a non starter.

So, I said " Fine, but you bring us some good quality work first and if it checks out fine you can work. We'll canvass some more but on your days off - it's part time to start - you canvass alone and show us you really want this", and he's got off to a great start.

He went out in Saltash and secured some houses and flats all priced properly, plus two pubs and a weekly furniture shop clean on the high street. He then went to a place called West Hoe and picked up six flats in a block. I had a call from a lady who was out when he called to give me her flat number and that of two of her friends, making nine there in total ....... so far!!

The worst that can happen is that he buggars it up again and we've got this extra work on the books or alternatively he's finally woken up to the fact that he needs to work and he'll be fine; either way I can't lose.

Keep your fingers crossed ;D

That's great and sort of restores my faith in the 'youf' of today!

I was cleaning a large house on Wednesday and thought the family was out. The daughter, a delightfully gorgeous 16 year old, emerged from the house with her ipod, said hi and told me she was going to go and soak up the Sun - fairly standard teenage behaviour I thought. Couple of minutes later I hear the little tractor start up and there she is cutting the grass, still listening to her ipod tunes for the next hour.

Most impressed especially as it was about 25c! Grass looked nice too when she finished.

maybe he's found his groove.
He might not be a grafter but he's got the patter to generate business.

It's the hormones.
I found, with my kids, that they got to an age that they started to become a little more sensible (girls are usually better than boys).
I know I was a right prat at that age.  ::)

I thought the ship in a cruel sea was the Compass Rose a Flowers Class corvette.

Listening to Hancock's Half Hour as I work keeps me sane and is still very funny after 60 years.
Moira Lister made some remark to Hancock that he looked like Jack Hawkins in The Cruel Sea to which Hancock quipped:
' She should know. She was in it ! "

Meanwhile back in 2012..........

Hancocks half hour, The goon show, I'm sorry I'll read that again, Mark Thomas, Milton Jones, Armstrong and Miller, there are LOADS of quality podcasts/downloads out there, makes working much more fun!

You've just listed most of my favourites! Must be a window cleaner thing  :)

Sid, having pulled off a scam as Mayor for awarding dodgy building contracts to his own company:
Hancock: ' You wait until the monopolies commission hears about you '
Sid: "They know all about me"
Hancock: ' DO they? '
Sid: ' Yeah, I'm the chairman.'

Their second ship was "Saltash" in the book (well worth a read) but "Saltash Castle" in the film, for some reason...
