My 19 year old son, who is widely regarded as a lazy waster with no interest in working, especially by me and his mum, asked for a job the other day.
He's been offered the chance to work for us quite a few times and so far he's never failed to let us down - his work is fine but getting the little buggar up at 5am is a non starter.
So, I said " Fine, but you bring us some good quality work first and if it checks out fine you can work. We'll canvass some more but on your days off - it's part time to start - you canvass alone and show us you really want this", and he's got off to a great start.
He went out in Saltash and secured some houses and flats all priced properly, plus two pubs and a weekly furniture shop clean on the high street. He then went to a place called West Hoe and picked up six flats in a block. I had a call from a lady who was out when he called to give me her flat number and that of two of her friends, making nine there in total ....... so far!!
The worst that can happen is that he buggars it up again and we've got this extra work on the books or alternatively he's finally woken up to the fact that he needs to work and he'll be fine; either way I can't lose.
Keep your fingers crossed
