Changed pre filters and membrane.....
« on: May 27, 2012, 08:40:06 am »
..... But my tds level before di is still 38. At one time it was around 12. Tap water is 250. Any ideas? I have flushed for 24 hours, but no improvement.

are the membranes in properly, and is the cap fully done up.
it could be leaking water around the edges inside, take them out, then put them back in.

Well that saw an improvement. Now down to 27. Still not the way it was, but better.

Is the new membrane like for like with the old ?
Apparently a hf5 will give a higher Tds than a hf4 (obviously that depends on wether you are using a booster pump and which make)

I am just usung a 200gpd ro from Pure Freedom. I ordered the replacement membrane from them. However I ordered the prefilters from Gardiners, but They were just standard 10 inch.

Did you flush the pre filters before you connected the membranes?
I can remember when waking up stiff in the morning was a good thing.

Yes. I changed the prefilters as the first attempt to solve the rising tds problem. They were flushed overnight. When that didn't cure it I replaced the membranes. It's a mythtery.

some membranes can take weeks for the tds to drop off from new.

Ok will monitor. It's mainly irritating as I use a 10" di vessel and I am changing resin every 600-700 litres and it's a pain. I know I could buy a bigger or second di.

Don't know about 200gpd system but with a 4040 there's a correct way to put the membrane in - just a thought, but you never know it may be the wrong way round?:)
also, did you clean out the housings or check to see if they were clean?

The first thing I would do is try to identify the problem. Run the R/O for a while and uncouple the pure pipe from membrane No1 at the point it joins the pure from membrane No2. Catch some of this water and test the TDS of the captured water. Do the same for membrane no2. You should now be able to identify which housing is causing the problem. If there isn't a problem then you need to check that the membranes have been coupled up right. Its easy to connect the waste of one to the pure of the other.

Fixed! Now down to .009. Spoke to Andy at Pure Freedom and after checking all the more obvious swapped the membranes around and an immediate fix. Weird. He reckons that perhaps a seal had snagged.
