Interesting Sideline for us.....maybe..
« on: May 25, 2012, 07:40:37 pm »
Hi Guys
Got an email today from this company (see Video)
I have never heard of this sort of thing, has anybody else?
Could we add it on to a list of extra jobs we do?
I don't know really what do you guys think? After all 2 out of 5 houses does have some windows that have seals gone in double glazed units...

Let me know have a look....

It does not cure the underlying problem, the seal is breached and will only be solved by renewing. Condensation will be back in no time.

Looks intresting but what would u charge a window.is it cheaper than to replace and does it really work.
Could be an intresting add on if all stacked up correctly.
Do they train you etc

I think the 2 seals you fit at end of process allow air in and out so no condensation ??

Forgive me if I'm missing something here but I always thought the point of a sealed unit was the vacuum between the glass.
So the unit is inert and if it gets hotter or colder outside than the room temperature no condensation should appear on the room side of the glass because the change in temperature isn't transmitted through the vacuum.
Works for noise as well which is what makes them so much quieter.
As the unit is now full of air surely all this does is reduce the effectiveness to that of secondary glazing?
Or have I missed something?

yup ur correct but maybe selling point to customers is they will be able to see out of glass ?

10 unit material pack = £88 ... they rekon u can sell it for £45 a go.

maybe too much hassle compared to actually cleaning the windows ... then problems if it dont work as u have drilled 2 holes in customers windows and knowing my ham fisted luck I would crack the window .... so personally Im out  ;D

A lot of work and kit at that price can't be far off the price of relacing the unit and getting a cheap local window fitter to fit it (with your commision of course)? ... liked the dremel though.

Would be handy if they were to mention which University tested it and what their results were, rather than saying it was tested.  I'd like to know how they think it's good for 20 years as well.

I certainly wouldn't fancy drilling a unit out, probably quicker to remove it, cut it open and remake it on site  ;)  Pig of a job though, I've done it years ago myself.

Apart from it being so called university tested, university tested for what?
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

I couldn't see any mention of training on the website.
Surely this is too complicated an area to just dabble and have a go in.
A lot of sealed units are now charged with gas (like freon) and not just vacumed.

Forgot to mention that...Inert Gasses seem to be becoming popular now particularly Argon.
Not heard of Freon in windows but I do know that Freon Molecules are very small and would probably escape the seal very easily and they're very difficult to keep in old air-con systems.
