Hell hath no fury like a window cleaners
« on: May 25, 2012, 04:52:29 pm »
Had a seriously up and down day today (i know im moaning but im not forcing you to read on).  Customer from hell has been in touch today.  She's one of those 'nothing is ever good enough people'.  she emails me saying her cleaner (who i think hates me because i get paid more than her) says i have dodged the conservatory and lounge windows.  now i know for a fact that i did clean them, and double and triple checked them (didnt wanna give this lady any excuse to not pay me) but she says oh my cleaner is adamant, please can you come back as check (as though i have all the time in the world) so i say to her i can 100% guarantee that i cleaned them and they were perfect on monday (she always leaves it 5 days before she complains which is bad enough in itself) and i get there and the f***ing gate is locked.  i email her again saying look, the gate was locked but that shouldnt matter anyway because i cleaned the bloody windows, and ive now made the effort to check for her.  she is still not happy, accuses me of not turning up saying the gate is always open and that she still believes her cleaner.
now i dont know whether her cleaner has it in for me (she was even in the conservatory whilst i was cleaning it) and she was in the house today yet mysteriously didnt open the gate even though i pressed the bell 10 times.
so anyway i'd had enough and i emiled the customer and said this 'my job is to clean windows and i would be a grossly incompetent window cleaner if i managed to miss out a whole side of windows.  i find it humiliating to have to repeatedly persuade you that i have infact cleaned all the windows.  if you are unable to trust me and to take my word that the job was duly completed then i am afraid i cannot work with you any longer'
i dont give a crap about the payment anymore, she treats me as her personal slave (i had to go back 3 times on a previous clean last year).
then in true CIU fashion i picked up a college afterward which more than pays for her messing me around.
sorry for the rant but i had to get this off my chest

Cheer yousefl up with the fact that she's now looking for a window cleaner; we all know how hard good ones are to find, so she'll end up with some shiftless hooligan who really will let her down.

Sounds like the customer from hell to be sure. If it were me I would not go back.

I have a customer whose future with me is on very, very thin ice. When I cleaned her windows recently, she phoned me the next day, which happened to be a Saturday, to say all her windows were streaky and that I had missed some out, and her tone and what she actually said was of a threatening nature, ie retribution if I didn't go back and sort them out or refund her money.

Now I am thorough to the point of OCD, so I had my suspicions that if the windows were as bad as she claimed, then they had been made dirty again after I had cleaned them.

I went straight back round and redid them all just to satisfy her. I took twice as long as I usually do, and by the end they weren't any better. They were clean anyway, so I really don't know what her problem was. Well, come to think of it, it is probably that I charge her a higher price than I would otherwise because her late sister, who was initially my customer, stiffed me for 10 euros when I did the windows the first time, and I would only do them again for a higher price.

It was interesting tha she wouldn't show me which windows were affected, and that she decided to go out and leave me to work away. She never phoned back so I guess she was satisfied, (probably that I did the job twice for the price of one).

she treats me as her personal slave (i had to go back 3 times on a previous clean last year).

You're very tolerant.  I would've went back ONCE, then never again.  There is a limit to 'being a good guy'; some customers will just take the mick.

Mate you just get these pains. Three points I would not take.
Who the hell is her cleaner? some sort of judge.( THIS SHOWS SHE CAN NOT STAND ON HER OWN FEET) NUTTER.
I would not look at any window after 24 hours as a lot can go wrong.
If they treat me like manure that the end of that.
I think you are a star for even giving her the time of day. GET rid I say.I would not even give her a minute of my life on these three points.

to conclude, she has just sent a very apologetic email saying the gardener same to powerwash the flags on wednesday and thats where the dirt has come from.  ive still dumped her and she knows it, because she wouldnt take my word that i had cleaned them.  but she has paid me and i am now in her books as a good honest business man.  from now one she will deal with far less nice people than me

Good for you. You have been vindicated, and her cleaner has to face her employer in the knowledge that she has caused her to lose a good window cleaner.

It took me a while but now know that customers like these are not worth the hassle ... tried with a few for a while to keep em happy which I think was down to my previous job which meant doing anything and everything to keep a customer satisfied but nowadays first sign of troubles they are gone.

Some people get off on this complaining kick. They get some sort of ego boost from it. I have had a few in my time but never for long. I had one, never actually complained but just made comments. That was enough.

Life is too short to worry about any of them, just walk away. Then because you are a CIU member you are guaranteed two more the same day without fail.

But seriously, never put up with them, once they start they never work out
