Help with staining on gutter please
« on: May 24, 2012, 10:04:05 pm »

Just wondered if anyone can suggest how to remove these markings on a gutter clean please

Scrubbed with hot pure water, then used some tfr, then got up the ladder and had a look as it wasnt coming off. The gutter seems to have a coating that i cant scratch off, even with my nail.

Any body know what this is and how to remove please?

May thanks, Steve

white scouring pad and some cream cleaner should shift it, this can be done from the floor as well if you dont want to go up on ladders

That should have come straight off with tfr mate you must not be using enough or you are using wrong brush  , I was thinking of getting a gardiners stiff bristled sill brush as i have got a real minger to clean over a large conny roof .  MIKE

Thanks for the replies lads.

M&M-I used near caustic tfr in the end and still it wouldn't shift. I took up a stiff vikan sill brush head as well. Still no joy. Also tried some tfr on a cloth.

Really bad stains, looks as though it's like a blooming from the gutter extrusion?

Think I may have to try the upvc cleaner and a scouring pad suggestion

Thanks

if it is a basic gutter clean i would just tell custy you cant get it off end of . but if you have priced it well and have promised to shift all staining then you will have to try your best which i think you have mate .

Their is some staining that wont shift and their is not much you can do no doubt the gutter was almost black with dirt and had not been cleaned for about 4-5 yrs .  mike

Try a Magic Sponge or Siroflex Solvent Cleaner. Last resort is to use the Siroflex with the Magic Sponge. Wear decent gloves when you do this.

Takes time and you'll have to bin the Magic Sponge once done but guaranteed to get this off. You'll need to keep following with a rag and a bit more solvent as you go along to prevent it drying back on.

I offer two services a quick wash down which your talking about which is cheap or a more in detail clean, tfr a lot of the times will not bring up gutters nor the soffit boards I have tried all sorts, cheap to expensive. some just need more work and tools that will do the job.

You could always replace the section. Easy to do, cost less than £ 10.00. For a 5 mtr

Its the sign of old PVC. Use doctor power apply with a cloth and then buff with a spay silicon. But its will never shine again they should be replaced .Its hard work.Good luck. 8) 8)

I'd have a go with 000 grade steel wool and soapy water mate - I use it often and it does the trick - it brings most stuff off
Or maybe barkeepers friend from the supermarket if you can't get hold of it readily

Window washers Mate I noticed you have not given a solution to the problem as this Mattie has tried a few things to no a vale. If it was just backed in dirt do you not think it would has washed off with all he has used.

You may want to read through the posts, I have indeed given him the infomation he could use to fix this  ;)

Tfr is not that great on plastic a lot of the time unless it is just surface dirt, so to answer the question no I dont think it would have washed off because sometimes it needs something else, just going from ym own experience on doing these jobs mate.

To me, it looks like discolouration from bacteria.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

Squirt of Ajax cream cleaner on your brush head and give it a good scrub with very little water. Usually works.

Where it gets tricky though is above a largea conservatory roof. Hard to get pressure on the brush.
