Twitter V forum
« on: May 19, 2012, 01:28:53 am »
Will twitter be the new forum. Twitter is a little more controlled than a forum.

I find discussing, messaging and emailing in Twitter a much better media regards discussing window cleaning topics than a forum that is just full of noise.

There is no 'bad attitude', 'chips on shoulders' in Twitter just freindly chat. Forums are just as good as Twitter when it comes to newbies wanting help, mind.

I hear about a lot of people being 'hounded off' forums, I read the good posters call them 'Witch hunters'....... I don't hear that in Twitter. For me Twitter is the new forum :)

Its a shame really as I have made a whole bunch of friends in forums.

Forums will change in the future...... I have a plan :)

Isn't twitter limited to a certain amount of characters in any one message?

They will need to be shorter ads then.

So if you have a longish topic you need to create several 'ads' ??

You no I'm a fan of twitter lee but I think forums can hold there
Own for some time yet. I think twitter is good for net working,
And yes your right about the chips on shoulders and witch hunts on here!
But if you miss a post ( or tweet on twitter ) they will disappear down the
Pages after about a hour ( or 5 mins if you are following many hundreds)
So you don't get the same input as a forum.

The only thing ciu is missing for me is dm, but I'm told the reason why it has
Gone is the same reason loads leave forums..

Ban the small minded bully's and ciu will be a better place ;)
keep it simple

I have never used twitter. Because of that I prefer the forum! Also if we swapped we may alienate a lot of people with good ideas or experience.

twitter is a stream of text messages from all sorts of sources ... teens swearing cos it's clever ... twenties females saying omg new shoes coffee at starbucks ... men of all ages perving (showing off) over afforementioned females ... neurotic housewives bored mums and neurotic office chaps no girlfriend taking some downtime from porno... PR dweebs for celebs pretending to be the celebs ... lazy journalists doing online research ... and desperate businesses trying to sell crappola.  brilliant in a nutshell.

the thing is that the forum is free and open and you choose to comment or not. some will agree with what is said and some will not. some people will take everything as read some will critically analyse. it's all good open discourse.

Yes - nut you can send direct messages and email people with your 'own' email. You know who your talking to and have more control if you want to be genuine friend with that person. You can block out an idiot ( for example)

That is true.... may be I shouldn't say this but the next big thing for window cleaners is coming. Ive seen it. I don't how to describe it...... Facebook for windys???, I don't know but done in a  specific window cleaning way, where you can hook up to cross over to another industry for passing work on that is not in your field.

That means office cleaners who do not window clean will pass work across and sub to you. Big Nationals and big cotracts will tender on this site wanting your services!

Imagine your business profile page with your pic, imagine a friends list you really want ( you can pick who you interact with), imagine buttons for marketing advise, employment advise and health & safety advise. Imagine a button to a public area where you know every bodies details and can see their profile pics instead of a silly random pic of a cat or dog ( for those missing a bit of forum banter )
Imagine a button to sell a round or equipment, imagine a button to click from your profile page if you want to add more work to your business, imagine a more fun networking experience that you are with people that are interested in a window cleaning business whether its to grow or stay where they are, whether they want to be informed of the latest tax law or advise on growing their business to dizzy heights.
Imaging the stores button that has negotiated the cheapest price around on the strength of this websites members. Imagine linking in all the share buttons, your website.......

That is a place I want to be :)

How will you fit a post like yours (which contains several valid subpoints, examples and comments) into 168 characters?

Before you go on the attack, as is your wont, it's a genuine question.

But can you link/spam your magazine as effectively on twitter as you can on a forum?

Lee, dont bite the hand that feeds you....you are being very disrespectful to a forum that has been around for a long time and you advertise constantly on. It may not be perfect but its the best there is at the moment. Your idea sounds very clicky where you can exclude people for any reason ie they dont agree with you.....

If you want a window cleaners facebook just use facebook.....
