Im having a major headache,
Has anyone fitted a 1000ltr ibc into a transit 80?

My first problem is that the outlet sits lower than the base of the tank which means ill have to raise the tank by 100mm.

Second problem is the ribs on the van floor are making it difficult for the tank to sit properly.

Third problem is the diesel tank is situated underneath where the tank needs to be fitted.

Any help would be great.

The way i see it is , you have to rethink where your puttin your tank , or drop the fuel  tank then fit .
I got around the tap clearance thing by mounting the water tank on a wooden pallet .

are you intending to fill the tank up, cos on the 80 the payload is 907!!

Got no intentions of filling right up.

I thought about putting it on a pallet but wasnt sure if it would be safe.
Can i put the tank towards the back of the van neer the door?

i think that a tank needs to be fitted in a certain way so that the weight is distibuted evenly over the axle. if i was you mike i would consult somebody in the know cos thats gonna be a lot of weight in the back.

correct you cannot have the bulk of the weight over 1 axle

if you are not going to fill it up, why have it in there...use it as a static tank and fit a smaller tank in your vehicle

Matt is right.

Each axle has a max permissable weight so its crucial that any tank is fitted in the right place.

Is that IBC going to be baflled out? I am not being cheeky or anything but if it isn't then not only will it be dangerous to drive with any appreciable amount of water in it you wont be able to get the weight distibution right because of the water slewing around inside and therefore changing the weight distribution as you drive.

I have been pulled by the "Ministry" a couple of times in the past with heavy loads in vans. They can and do spot check transit type vans..  the up to 3500 gross weight ones regularly as these are always the ones to be most likely to be overweight in some way. They go over the van like a rash. Like a full MOT and the last thing they do is weigh it. The penalties can be horrendous so this is very dodgy ground to be on.

I have a tranny 120 with a 650 litre tank which is positioned over the rear axle and bolted throught the chassis and angle iron

Your axle weight is a lot lower then your max gross weight for the van.

I know firms that have been fined £2,000.00 for being under the gross weight but over the axle wight. They carried extra goods for somebody and packed it near the rear doors which inturn affected the axle weight.

If they had packed it behind the driver they would not have paid a fine.

Get some advice before procceding.

Im using the 1000ltr tank to cut costs as i got it free.
Im going to baffle it out to.Ive got my yard full of soil pipe to prove it!
I cant have a static setup as havnt got the space so have opted for the 4 x 40 ro as its probaly the best preforming ro.

Dave, is your 650ltr tang an ibc? Who fitted it for you?
Idealy i want to fit it myself again to cut costs.

no its not ibc it was from gardinerpole systems ,i think i paid about £170 for it .

It sits about 2` high so is quite stable .i got the local mechanic to do the drilling for me

David , what are you saying , wooden pallets are made so they can withstand more than a tonne of weight on them , why to the haulage companies use them otherwise ?
I cant see any problem with it that way , i have a 175 L tank sat on a half pallet and no problems yet , as far as i can see , as long as you have some other means of holding the tank in place i.e ratchet straps  , heavily rated ones of course , you should be safe , and before anybody brings up the crash test certificate stuff , how many people on here actually have had theirs tested  , granted there will be a fair percentage of you , but i bet its a 50/50 split , i would do a poll but i dont know how .
Someone do it and shoot me down !

I have a 1000 litre IBC tank in a Transit 90 T350 It is behind the bulkhead divider and I got round the petrol tank by drilling holes further out than the tank and using eye bolts for the straps.

If the ribbed floor is causing a stability problem why don't you board a section or the whole floor?

Iv'e been extremely busy Gaz, both on the domestic and commercial. It seems to have gone stupid for us at the moment.

Got a four figure per month contract today and another major name contract pending.

I ought to be elated but I'm like a man possessed at the moment and I'm onto the next potential contract.

God I love this trade - NO employer can ever give you those sort of wage rises.
