Pure Freedom Digital Controller
« on: April 13, 2012, 09:11:13 pm »
Hi Guys,

I've just spent the afternoon fitting my D.I.Y. Pure Freedom system and the pump keeps cutting out and re starting every couple of seconds. It keeps flashing Bat, when I check the voltage its reading 11.4. I'm presuming that the battery is on the low side. I'm only using a small car battery because I'm working out of the back of an escort van. I fully charged the battery a couple of weeks ago and left it on the shelf. I'm hoping that the battery has lost a bit of charge and thats its not because its not powerful enough to run the pump. What you guys think, I'm wanting to get some ideas before I go out in the morning and have a play with it.

The battery is flat. A battery will show a higher voltage when left to rest as it will 'recover' a bit. The moment you put a load on it, the voltage will die. Could be liked to flat batteries in a torch. If switched on the bulb will glow for a moment and die.

Now's the time to replace the battery with something that will last you better.

For me I'm a believer in a Leisure battery, say an 85amph.

I haven't really got a hundred quid to splash out on a battery at the moment which is a bummer. Do you think a car battery would be okay to start off with. I haven't got any work yet, but I'm hoping to get out tomorrow and get a bit of work.

I use the same controller. The battery shouild have a rough reading of 12.74amps. Like Spruce said, it could be the battery being a little under par.

I bought a normal medium sized battery from Halfords, at the time it was £65. But I realise now I should have went and bought a one from the scrapyard at £15.

I got so sick of wasting money on leisure batteries and constantly trickle charging them, then forgetting to charge them, then they give up.

Any battery will do, your only running a controller and pump. Try and buy a relay kit from e-bay, and it will charge as your driving.

Good luck.

Weetot, that sounds like a plan to me. My battery has been sat in the shed for about 18 months before I charged it so I'm guessing the battery which is about 5 years old might have seen better days. I think I'll give it a charge in the morning and if not I'll pop the scrappy then get out canvassing. I'm purifying an IBC of water now and have put about 100 litres in the tank in my van also.

I'm made up with fitting the system in an afternoon. I was expecting loads of problems with the system and the only 2 I've got is a low charged battery and the top of my DI column is leaking apart from these little problems the whole system is running spot on.

My Missus didn't believe me when I said that if I had if fitted professionally it would have cost me a grand.
