Hello,

I am just about to build a window cleaning round, I am trying to decide on the best method?  I am  considering canvassing door 2 door as I believe it may be a quicker  method… What’s your opinions … Leaflets or Door Knocking? Sorry if it seems like a basic question it is my first - time starting a Window Cleaning Business….. I know there are many factors to consider but would it be realistic to expect … Knocking on 100 doors too produce 4   New customers?   I’m quitting my Job so I am trying to attain what’s going to be required to build a profitable round…

I would say the best way is to combine the two and leaflet while you knock, the ratio of work to doors varies but an average is 1 in 10 people you speak to. You will get better areas and some real tough ones but if you keep going and set yourself daily goals then its very achievable....

If you are going full time on this and dont have a large amount of cash behind you or have family to support then
you cant beat canvassing - with the lighter evenings you can be out to around 7.30 pm - this will build your round quicker than anything else ( unless your buying a round )
it also gives people a chance to meet you and this all helps to securing work - dress smart and be presentable ( not suited and booted )

i always leave a leaflet even if they don't want our services or are out - i also  record the NO's and outs so i dont re knock the no's but can re visit those who are out.


if you canvass you should be able to add 100 customers to your books over a couple of months - then a good 20/30 PM as you get busier.

but you have to be dedicated to canvassing - don't pre judge a property and keep knocking - some days will be horrid - but keep going you will see the rewards in your pocket as time goes bye

I started my round about 3 months back, i'm now at just over 200 customers and most of these came from canvass although we have also dropped leaflets which have bought in about 20 of those 200. To build quickly in my eyes you have to knock doors which also enables you to quickly work out if an area is already well covered by other windys. We have gone out some nights and realised after the first hour or so that an area is going to be a hard knock only to move half a mile up the road and pick up 10 new calls in a short space of time.  I'm looking to make my days as compact as possible with fuel costs what they are now and knocking doors to me is the easiest way of doing this. Stick at it and you will get their mate just dont get to down if you have a couple of bad nights.

Good luck with the round building, Its reasonably tough to build a round over here but doable.a lot of people are still a little suspect of wfp pole so do be prepared to use a ladder but alot are fine with the pole. what area are you in.(hope your not in mine it could be very confusing}

Make sure you practice as much as poss with the pole before going out with it to a customer, and if you can stay in work while cavassing do so.  Best of luck

That was very motivating mate! I only started, been out yesterday and today and tbh didn't get on well. Picked up just one house front I also find canvassing a bit tough, don't have that confidence in dealing with people on their doorstep yet.

Cheers for that i feel all is going to plan. Got a decent canvasser and the mrs and mum in law drop out the leaflets. Have had the odd set back with some custys who i think are just after a one off clean and always seem to find a reason to moan and cancel but what the hell theirs plenty more fish in the sea and i'm now starting to pick up new custys from recomendations so i guess i must be doing something right most of the time
