** How Do Yo Make Telesales Work For Your Business ** New

My name’s Chris Newton and I run a telesales company called Newton Fox. We work for a variety of companies to generate decent quality appointments for our clients to attend and, hopefully, win the business.

One of the reasons I set Newton Fox up with my wife Julie two years ago was that we couldn’t find a decent telemarketing company to do just one or two days per week for reasonable fees. We started doing our own and even helped one or two clients with simple systems and procedures.

We have grown from there and specialise in contract cleaning, facilities management and security. We have favoured rates for cleaning contractors because we know that they work to narrow margins and haven’t got £thousands to throw away on marketing at the best of times.

One of the main reasons telemarketing doesn’t work is because if a company does engage in it they often put a young person on the job with no or little experience. They then leave them to it for a few weeks/months and only return to it when they realise that they have produced very little in the way of return on investment. The young person gets the heave-ho and the company decides from there on in that telesales is a waste of time – big, big mistake!!

B.A.N.T Scoring

We’re learning all the time but we have got some really good systems we use to help make not just more appointments but better quality appointments. For example, we use a system known as ‘BANT’ to assess the quality of the appointments we’re making. It stands for Budget, Authority, Need and Timeline.

In other words, we literally score whether they can afford our clients services, whether the person we’re sending them in to see can make decisions independently of anyone else, whether they need the services and finally when they are looking to start or change to a new contractor.

Training          
    
In addition we use a telephone system that not only records all we do but is designed to cram as many calls into one day as possible. We conducted a quick survey last year and established that we make on average as many calls in one day as most of the companies we surveyed made in a week.

Our staff are continuously trained and monitored, incentivised with generous basic salary and bonus structure meaning they work very, very hard every single minute of every single day to get the best results. It does mean that we too work to narrow margins but the results speak for themselves. We have great reputation for what we do which we’ve worked very hard for.
