protektacote
« on: March 12, 2012, 08:43:46 pm »
got a new (different) van recently, had a tin of protektacote in cellar for a while.

now, do i take out the ply boarding first or do i just paint over the top of the wood.

obviously quicker to just go over the top, but will it work (satisfactorily) or am i wasting my time by not removing boards first?

Dave,

I recently had a chat with one of the Andy's that work at Purefreedom and they told
me to leave the plywood in and paint over the top before dropping off the van to them.
Thought this was a bit of a strange thing to do.  :o

yes, i suppose it is meant to be used on a CLEAN surface
so i doubt that even well sanded wood would be classed as (clinicly) clean.
Think i'm answering my own quetion arn't i?

Eh.......... ??? ??? ??? ???
What a strange thing to do,I have recently bought a brand new van all ply lined,I've taken it all out and protectakoted the floor and about 4 inches up the sides,I then put the ply back in without the floor piece and done the same on both sides of the ply half way up.
I don't think it matters too much on the side ply though but it does on the van floor,if you only go over the floor ply all the water will get trapped underneath and not only will it rot the ply underside but your van floor too  :'(

When I bought my van it was ply lined, so I sealed around the edges and anchor points and then Protektacoted it, and including going up the sides by about a foot. It's worked a treat and sealed nicely.  ;D
