Hi El,

When we were considering starting a window cleaning business 14 months ago, we found reading lots of posts on this site helped us to come to the decision that  we were going to go ahead.  Just reading all the info and advice is a great intro into the world of window cleaning. Get as much info as you can but take your time deciding because it isnt as easy as it seems. but nothing thats worth doing is ever easy.

Good luck

Hi Ahmet

I plan to start in the next few weeks and would be interested to know what problems you had when you first started and how it is all going now 14 months on.

Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve,

Problems that i encountered at the beginning were having to be almost completely self-taught though i did eventually spend a few days with another window cleaner and that taught me quite alot.  Try and get to know a few other w cleaners and as long as they know you are not trying to tread on their toes, they seem to be a helpful bunch. Also  they will be able to help you with planning your round cause there is more to it that we first thought.  Window cleaning might sound like a really basic business to run but there is quite alot to take in if you want to do it properly and make money. I dont know what part of the country you are in but getting your pricing right can be a bit tricky so its worth giving a bit of time researching the sort of properties you want to target and deciding what you think your time and labour are worth. Ive found that you can never get it right with every customer because some will pay  what you ask without quibbling and some want you to do it for next to nothing.

Ive been window cleaning for 14 months now and in that time have added pressure washing and gutter cleaning. I also do alot of conservatory roofs. As there will be 2 of you i would definately offer gutter cleaning as one of you can clean whilst the other foots the ladder which is much safer than doing it on your own like i have been.  All in all ive got a good business that is steadily growing and means im earning a decent living and im my own boss. Im employing someone to help me in Febuary and have just bought a wfp system so we will be faster and more importantly safer.      Hope this helps        Ahmet

Read the posts on this forum and ask as many questions as you like.

If you are unsure about this business i would get yourself 1 or 2 small jobs to start with just to test the water and see if it's for you.

wheni started i went to the local window cleaner and explained what i was gonna do and i was amazed that he gave me 40 houses that he didnt want, its worth having a word with him/her,
and the golden rule, dont poach other peoples work.
