All's well that ends well
« on: March 05, 2012, 11:43:17 am »
Hi all thought I would share this, its a very long story so will keep short and sweet.

Last Sunday evening a fella bought a Prochem Powerflo off of my website, he left a billing address and a different delivery address (nothing unusual about that) he then came back to the site the next day to register and left more detail telephone number etc (again nothing unusual about that) On Tuesday we deliver the machine and every one is happy.

On Friday afternoon I get a phone call from my bank informing me that the card was stolen and that I would have to pay the money back, even though the payment passed all of the online security checks. As I am sure you can imagine this ped me off some what as I was happily cruising towards the weekend.

I call the courier company I use to find out if the machine was delivered to a house (it was) and if I could get a description of the person that signed for it, I then called the police to register the crime and to see what they could do for me. The police said they could only start an investigation after I had paid the money back and sent in all the relevant paperwork which would take a few days, by then the guy would of had the machine for a week and probably sold it meaning I would be out of pocket.

Fuming, I jump in the car and drive to the delivery address with my only hope that the guy is stupid enough to have had the machine delivered to his own house but even if he did, he isn't going to be stupid enough to admit to me that he has got it or knows anything about it.  When I get there, it is in a really rough part of town 2 banged up cars in the front garden and all the curtains are drawn. Not knowing what to expect or even what to say I knock the door a few times but get no answer. Gutted I get back in the car and sit there for a minute trying to think what to do, maybe this is a house just to get knocked off gear delivered to. I call the number a few times the numpty left on my site and got no answer. I called again but this time I left a message saying who I was and that he had bought a machine from me and that I was outside the delivery address with a new machine that I wanted to swap because unfortunately, the manufacturer had recalled the original because of a suspected fault, can you call me urgently. I was just trying to think of something to get him to engage with me.

I sat there for another minute totally gutted thinking about the swine laughing at me with A pocket full of my cash in his pocket, when suddenly and I kid you not, HE WALKS OUT OF THE HOUSE!!!

After talking to him and him denying all knowledge he very quickly realised that the only way there was going to be a happy ending to this was for him to give me the money in full or the machine back. He chose to give me the machine back that was sitting there still all boxed up untouched.

Can you believe the front of some people jeeeeeeez!!!!!

I know mate, to be fair they are so over stretched its a joke. I know an officer in the MET and spoke to him after I got the machine back and he said I did the right thing carrying out my own investigation as it could have taken them ages if at all to get round  to knocking his door ???

Wow, what a pain. I am just so glad you managed to get to the address - and get the machine back. That must have been a major relief!

Cheers

Thanks Kev

A relief is an understatement.

The thing is if I had given the guy a slap (which he obviously deserves) the police would of been there in a heartbeat putting the cuffs on me.

You were seriously let down by the bank and the police, which is actually making my blood boil...

This is exactly why these scum bags in our society will try anything they are without fear of being caught. It's a shame you didn't give the little ****** a good hiding, but like you say, they'd have immediately been on his side.... >:(

Colin, I can assure you he came very close to getting a slap when he was was trying to deny it. Thankfully he saw sense.

Jamie, on the way to the address I didn't see the funny side of it but on the way back I was chuckling away to myself at how stupid the fella was on so many levels  ;D ;D

Police would soon be round if you tussled with him to get your own property back, except it would be you they were interested in.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

you went about it all wrong, when you contacted the police you should have told them the address and said you were going round to shoot him.

they would have met you there :D :D

I wonder if the card was reported stolen after the transaction.

ie. It was his card all the long hence it passing security checks.

Well done. We nearly got our fingers burnt once when i worked in the motor trade.A  guy ordered a set of wheels with a c/c, different address to the billing address, LUCKILY, was about to ship them out when another dealer in the next county phoned us and told us he had just been had by the same person, but using a different card and address. Was really close to saying goodbye to £2.5k! They will certainly try their luck nowadays.  >:(

Well done!
The Police gain nothing by recovering your machine! more profit in picking on speeding motorists etc...
Its a disgrace!!
I received a similar email enquiry from a Nigerian "business man" Surrey Police checked his details out and confirmed he was dodgy...

Slightly off topic, but I love getting those dodgy foreign phone calls, my latest one is: "Hello, this is Chief Inspector Day of the Helston Fraud Squad..." They hang up instantaneously..... ;D ;D ;D
