Dog sick on memory foam mattress
« on: March 02, 2012, 08:22:01 am »
Custie has above on a mattress. Not seen it, but has been cleaned with usual stuff, and odour still remains. Does the mattress soak up the sick like a sponge, and there is little chance of removal, or can it be removed. Told her it would have to be submerged in deoderisor, or injected. Am I correct?

You cant wet clean a memory foam mattress and if you do it invalidates its warranty, if they have done this I would leave it alone, almost certainly they pushed the vomit further in to the mattress, but its up to you.

As for how do you clean a Tempur mattress (or similar) we do it with Dry Steam and this is to santitise it, no guarantees on stain removal.

Vertually impossible to clean these items out, you just can't get the near lock down required to draw any fluids out. Try it with any large piece of foam and see what happens.
In theory you would need to almost pressure wash it out, which would require specialist premises and equipment.
You only thing you could do would be to inject sanitisers into the mattress and allow it to dry which could take some time.
But I'd trust Hiltons knowledge on this and leave alone unless it's a few years old and the customer wants to sign the paperwork beforehand so they understand what can and what can't be achieved and why.

What would you say causes the smell in dog sick?
And once identifying the cause, what chemical would you use to rectify the odour?

Mattress is pretty new, and I thought either power wash or submerge. Didn`t want to say not interested, but don`t want to take it on, so just clarifying what could be done.....safely.

Is there a prize for this one?

Is this the Tie-Breaker?
