As far as I know leg power has not gone up, yet our costs are rising.By the way we pay by the thousand and not by the hour or leaflet.

I would be interested to know what others around the UK are being charged, Its not that I mind paying as its a thank less task and I would not do it but to justify the cost we must get a return so we will be looking at this more closely from now on.

I pay £30/1000 with a minimum of 2000 leaflets per drop, dropped with a max of 1 other leaflet.

Ours vary depending...

With local magazine £15-£25 / 1000

Solus to best areas £72 (may be £75) / 1000

With one other to targeted areas £48 / 1000

Royal Mail £62 (or is it £68 depending on quantity booked?) / 1000 but shared with others, BUT they are excellent at getting the villages distributors won't do and the response it great in those areas as they rarely get leaflets.  You have to be careful and target the drop to specific Postcode Sectors.  You'll need a sector map from a specialist map firm such as map-mechanics, and Sector numbers from the Royal Mail.  It's a bit of work but well worth it to get those affluant villiages 

Local papershop in with morning paper, buy stuff in the newsagent regularly then just ask, they usually charge bugger all and say give the lad a tenner and me a tenner for his round. Some say no, but if you don't ask you don't get :-)

Do you think if I went to Church I could try that with the Vicar?  How much to put my leaflet in with your parish magazine, Oh a tenner for the plate and a tenner to Agnes, no problem.

You're on to something there Allan.  Join the church and offer to help out setting up before service.  They should have put the hymn numbers up on the board already, so all you have to do is go round and stick a leaflet in all the hymn books at the appropriate page

Aside from the choir boy lovers on here, very concerning   

We pay £40.00 per thousand, £72.00 Solus they dont want to do Solus for obvious reasons, so make it prohibitive.

Seems to vary from the examples on here from £10.00 per thousand  (how do you know there getting delivered) to £30.00,, no doubt we pay extra for being in London area.

Royal Mail are ok, but do make life difficult to pay them for a service.

I've just booked 11,000 leaflets printed and delivered for £289 deliver with but not in a glossy mag delivered to up-market homes in my local town and all the villages around it.

I have been investigating Leaflet Distribution as an alternative enterprise due to my current circumstances and looking more for a Management operation that can be multiplied..

Price depends on if you have solus or are happy to be dropped with other non competing leaflets.

YTo make non Solus work they either need minimum of five leaflets or be paid for distributing one of these glossy Local Mags directories which often carry three other carpet cleaners adverts.
For a company to do solus they need to charge at least £75 to make a profit and have systems in place such as deliverer tracking, and check back reports etc.

Anybody not providing that level of service with street by street reports on completion is a Cowboy

One distributors that approached us wanted to charge around £90 / 1000 solus depending on the areas.  They showed me the sort of report we would get.  He had every distributor a personal tracker and they used a system called "Geotrack" I think or something like that.  They could tell EVERY house the distributor has MISSED and the report was automatic.  It allowed him to plan the most efficient route and timescale for distribution and also exact numbers we would need.  We could be as selective as we wanted, even down to street level.  It was very clever but we just could not justify the additional cost.

there is a universal truth with all marketing........... from leaflets to YPs to the 3 stage letter to the offering a free room of cleaning

if someone uses something that works...... then they will continue doing it

how many times have I heard a carpet cleaner tell me what a great response they got with a certain piece of marketing.... how it brought in tons of work but they don't still do it why not? if it was so great why are they not doing it all the time?

the same goes with leaflet delivery  some have said they have paid £50 upwards to get leaflet delivered, the question I ask are you doing it every week.... every month...... every year?

I use leaflets and do them every week.... every month...... every year and if I had to pay over £30/1000 i would not do them.

Hi Mike, good post.

We do leaflets week in week out and pay the varying rates I've already listed.

We justify paying the £70+ in the solus areas as they are targeted at high end and the average job value from those justify the additional expense, there are fewer call but MUCH bigger jobs so worthwhile.  The magazine distribution at £15 is more blanket and the response is much lower so wouldn't be worth doing if it was £70+.

We use different designs of leaflets too depending on the area it's going.  It's about the marketing mix and as you say, if it works just keep doing it.
