Paint Removal Internal Factory Floor
« on: February 28, 2012, 12:37:05 am »
Looked at a food processing plant today. Removal of blue paint required along with the yellow painted lines. Many areas like in the image.

Did a small patch with AS10 paint stripper to see if it would damage the floor. Just left on to dissolve and scrubbed away with a stiff hand brush. No damage caused, paint removed easily. Drainage is good inside. Hot pressure washing is an option. Gonna do a patch Saturday. In the meantime the chosen room is being cleared and RAMS are being sent in to gain authorisation to carry out demo.

Has anyone done this before? Are there other methods?

One worry would be contamination of drains with the stripper and paint residue.

It could be ground off!  But a lot depends on what they are going to do with it afterwards!  If they are going to recolor or repaint grinding is normally a better option as it's one process.  However if they are going to resin then your method will be fine and less expensive

if the customer is health and saftey conscious then they wont want that AS10 going down the drain. its nasty poop and the cossh says it cant go into waterways. get a floor scrubbing machine, and a stiff brush plate for it and do it the same way as the test. put the stripper down and scrub it off with the rotary brush and vac up. if you use a fsc itll clog, and if you just use a lance, the AS10 will splash up onto the walls and everywhere else.

Spoke to Trevor today. He's had experience with this. He also informs me of the need for a Gangmasters License.

Hi

I work at food factories nationwide.

Like the other post said what are they going to do to the floor afterwards and what sort of floor is concrete or resin.

Also is the paint just normal floor paint or a two-pack resin?

If you get any other work at food factories email me and I'll be glad to help if I can garyhammond21@gmail.com

You only need a gangmasters licence if you are providing labour to the factory not a service.

this is not true you do need a gangmaster licence even if you are providing a service, the rules are very vague for insrtance if cleaning floors only you may not need one but if cleaning any of the machinery or belts you deffinately need one you even need one iif all your staff are permanent and on the books with permanent contracts in place, i suggest you ring gangmaster licence comitee up and get all the facts as trading in food factories without as licence carries a £10,000 fine and upto 6 months prison sentence the excuse of not knowing the law existed is not a sufficient excuse, if you check on the gangmasters site you will see that Mitie have now applied for a gangmaster licence for a job they have secured with morrisons this firm does hundreds of food factories and trhought they didnt need a gangmaster licence but now have had to apply for one, if you need any further info then give me a call.
