Well lads,

I have a job coming up where i must pump dirty water out of a tunnel. I have done it before using industrial hoover but we had to keep emptying it so i'm wanting something faster. Would a water pump be suitable and if so can they run dry for long. We also used a subermissable pump but it kept clogging or else water was too shallow..

Any suggestions or experience to share?

Hi mate, thats always a prob with submersibles as they need a min hd...

sounds like you need a vac incorporating a submersible that way its not a problem when its dry, plus you can vac & pump out continiously  shame ur not local  one off would lend u ours!

Why not modify your industrial vac to incorporate submersible ? we did that to an old numatic wd900 worked ok for one offs.

Well never seen one of them b4! how the ... does the washer run dry ? or is there still water flow from the washer ??

it works like a venturi, similar to a chemical intake on your pressure washer, your pressure water puts water through it and the venturi part sucks the water up, I think it's runs at your litres per minute x 10, ie if you have a 15 litres per minute machine the water it can take up is 150 litres per minute - 15lpm x 10 = 150lpm
great bit of kit for draining blocked manholes etc

Would I be right in thinking .....if you used the washer initially and then turned it off the water would then syphon at a slower rate obviously     or would it suck into machine (must / maybe has a return valve to stop this mmm)  ...mmm questions questions

There is no non return valve and it would only act as a syphon if the source you were drawing from was equal higher than the source your draining it to.... ie you couldn't syphon a pond below ground level into a source above ground level.... i think....??

Yeah I got one of them, work really well, will drain a puddle on a surface down to about an inch, and very quickly too, excellent bit of kit to have in your van.
