I've got 2 100m rolls which are 18 months old which came from the cleaning warehouse, they have lasted well, I've just turned them on the reel so hopefully I will get another 18 months out of them

Good tip!!  Why is this the first time I've heard of it here? 

We used to do the same with boot laces in the army, in the 1980s, when things were tight!
