I've tried everywhere to buy a pump which is 6ins in diameter or less to fit through the hole in my ibc tank but no one sells them. So how do people get them inside their ibc tanks?
Its a bit like the old ship in the bottle situation!!

an easy solution would be a big bucket with your pump in connected to your ibc, you would need a tap to let the water fill the bucket at the same rate the pump is emptying though.

I've always wondered this! That's why I got an external transfer pump from Machine Mart.
Doesn't the submersible from Gardiners fit through though?

Nice sharp blade, takes 5 minutes.

I used a hacksaw and hacksawed a rough circle in the top of my tank; dropped in the submersible pump; then put a couple of hacksaw blades across the top of the hole, sat the piece I'd cut out on top and black nastied (gaffer taped) the seal.

Works great!  ;D

OK here is the secret, make sure you have an old stanley knief, heat the bugger up till it goes red.
Hot knief through butter?
The process took me little over 5 mins to complete.
Best to by a stanley knief in the pound shop, as the heat will probs damage it.
Or as Tosh said, just cut through with hacksaw, simples

Had same problem with my IBC , I used a 9inch inspection hatch from Barton marine ,they use em in boats and yachts for covering holes . They come with a separate flange and a large threaded white cover , cut out hole where the original lid is ,bolted flange in with stainless nuts and bolts ,screw on cover and job done.
Price was £15.00 but its good quality gear. If you type in inspection hatch it should come up,makes neat job
