regular pressure
« on: December 29, 2005, 07:15:00 pm »
Hi all
When you first clean windows with a wfp you have the pressure on high. Now after a few cleans would you have the pressure reduced all the time?

Cheers
Steve

Steve,

I had a good chat today with Ian_Giles about water-fed pole flow-rates and since we were cleaning in the same area, I came to Ian's rescue when his 'goose-neck' broke and he used my pole to complete his last house.

So I could see the difference between a high and low(ish) flow rate.

Anyway, a high flow-rate seems preferable to a low one.

I like around 2 litres per minute.  Ian_Giles uses around 3 to 5 litres per minute, but he's got a 650 litre van-mounted system and doesn't really care how much water he uses.

I just use my back-pack on 1st floor windows; mostly and I'm very inexperienced.

So take what I say with a pinch of salt; I may be talking complete twaddle.

But if you have the water-carrying capacity; why not use a high flow rate?  As long as you still give the window a good scrub (probably the most important part) and rinse properly; flooding the window won't hurt.

As an add on to Tosh's comment, I think the fact that I have fan jets and not pencil jets means i use closer to 2-2.5l per min.
With his brush connected up to my system there seemed to be more water coming out of his jets.
I think I'll nip out now and quickly measure how much water I am pushing out through the jets in a minute, then do the same through just the pole hose itself to see what difference the jets actually make.

Any  one taking bets whilst hes away- more water, less water or the same ?
( I guess about the same) but I never could win bets.

And the results!!! 8)!!!!

One minute of continuous use with the water going through the brush = 2.7l

One minute continuous use with water through the pole hose and not through the brush and jets = 3.5l

Shurflo 60psi pump; 50m standard hose; approx 10m pole hose.

Valve wasn't turned fully open, it was set at the normal setting I use when working.
At 2.7l I am using more water than I was when using the trolley, having a 650l tank means I am not too worried about a high (ish) flowrate.

I was a little surprised that without the brush on it was only 800ml more.

Presumably with the pump at the same setting and a much shorter length of hose it push out more water again, but in another post I read that someone was getting 6l per min out of their 60psi pump, mine produces nowhere near that amount...thankfully!

I have a trolley setup but its got a 100psi pump so it may be worth turning the pressure down on that.
