Say who...?
« on: February 07, 2012, 05:13:20 pm »
Asked in a local bank last week if want a window cleaner. Looked delighted that I had asked, but said will have to confirm with head office.

In I go today, sorry she says, a national company have it! I'm not kidding you could draw pictures in the dust, must be at least 12 months worth of grime. She says ISS have the contract.

So.....

Please tell me if you know who ISS are,

And whom I might contact to offer to do a job that's not being done.

Thanks.

i used to sub for ISS. massive company all over the planet like babcock etc. they are into lots of parts of the service industry. the subby who has the contract for your bank could send them the invoice and only turn up every other time.

on national jobs like that you find alot of the time that quality plays no part in it. you are flogging a dead horse mate. just canvass all the other shops in the same street. its a numbers game.

Guess what was being cleaned this morning!?

The bank.
I walked over, tried having the crack, having none of it!
Where you from I ask. Gives me company name!
I know that I say, its written on your back. I mean are you local.
No he says. I'm from Birmingham!

Any more work in town?
No just this.

So bloke is doing 3hour round trip for 25 worth of work.

I ask, will your company not sub out to local cleaners?

No he says, we have to be trained in risk assesments and method statements!

(I withold the information that I was city and guilds best New comer for 2011(hold your impact 43 comments, that's not what this post is for))

Oh right I say. Then where are your signs for hoses across footpath?

How on earth can a 3 hour round trip break even. Fuel, wages etc etc, perhaps one of you big guys can tell me?

worth the trip because that'll be the only branch cleaned that day but they'll still bill all the others for not cleaning.
To climb mount fuji you must first find a path

don't know the answer to your questions, but I wouldn't have answered any of them, you would have got a simple , what has it do with you type answer, or a trying to work here excuse me, or just plain rude, either way, nothing you can do about it really, thinking about it I would probably be really sarcastic and say something along the the lines of, local lads are all rubbish thats why I was called in apparently, ;D

what is the point of questioning a window cleaner on why he is doing a job, he is only doing what he is paid for? not his fault his company got the contract ???

Yup.

Somethings you just walk away from.

I do a several jobs next to a 'Gap' store in Brighton that sells kiddies clothes. I saw the bloke doing an appauling job the other week. I said hello to him and made some joke but he looked at me blank.

He didn't speak English.

There was no point in going into the store to ask the obvious question.
Just chant..... Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. It's beats chanting Tory Tory or Labour Labour.

I am asking you guys, never asked him why! from our brief encounter, I don't think he would be able to answer much more than this anyway.

Just that I will talk to other window cleaners, help em out, all an effort to improve the image of an industry that is fighting the generalistaions of a window cleaner. These guys don't help!

I don't begrudge anyone having a contract, but if two groups of people can help eachother, why would you have to come across as a total eejit?

But I don't pre judge. When I go national, ill sub to you my friend!   ;D

I am not a big player, but I know how they do it.

Think about it. That bank hadn't been cleaned in ages, as soon as you rattled the bars the manager spoke to head office.

What would happen then is that head office talks to contractor, who gets into a flap and sends out a cleaner. If they are lucky nothing else will be said. If they are unlucky the bank will realise that they have been paying for a service that is not being provided, then the contract comes up for tender.

The national will do it for a while, and then start bumping all over again. It pays because the bill always goes in on time regardless of whether the job has actually been done.

McDonald's do my head in.

Went in one last week to give the manager a card and said if you need you roof cleaning give me a shout we'll do the whole roof for £xxx and it will take inside of a day to do it.

The muppet(jumped up newly promoted manager on a power trip)says ''ohh we do it ourselves''

I laughed at him and said ''do you really, with what?''

Jokers they really are.
